Ellingham beaten in second half.

Lynn Docklands Lift Primary Cup
Monday, 07 April 2008.
Lynn Docklands made it a night to remember at Aldiss Park on Friday evening, crushing Ellingham 5-0 to ensure their name will be inscribed as this year’s winners of the Norfolk Primary Cup.
Five goals in the space of 20 second half minutes did the damage, after Ellingham had arguably enjoyed the better of the chances during the first 45 minutes. The opening of the game was marred by an injury to Ellingham’s Tom Ashford, who had to be replaced inside two minutes after a crunching tackle. The injury seemed to unsettle the team playing in amber and black and they were lucky not to go a goal down after 10 minutes, keeper Adam Briggs having his blushes spared by the covering defender after he completely missed his kick when attempting to clear a through ball. Following the lucky escape, Ellingham rallied and should have taken the lead on 20 minutes. Philip Collings lashing a volley from outside the box just over the bar after a quick free kick had caught the Lynn Docklands defence napping. Ellingham continued to look the more threatening side and on the half hour mark Collings again had Docklands shot stopper Mario Marranzine scrambling, this time with a dipping free kick from 30 yards that grazed the top of the frame. That chance seemed to shock Docklands into gear and they created two good opportunities for striker Kyle Plumb before the half was out. However Plumb failed to test the keeper, heading over twice when he should have scored. Half time: Ellingham 0 – 0 Lynn Docklands The deadlock was broken in the 49th minute, when some excellent play down the right hand side resulted in Chris Yaxley hitting a first time screamer into the top of the net. Now with the all important lead, Docklands relaxed into their game and produced a spell of delightful football. In the 52nd minute Yaxley claimed his second, sweeping the ball home after a low cross, before Adam Chennery converted a penalty after Briggs had brought Plumb down in the area. Plumb made it four on 63 minutes, volleying into an open net after Briggs had failed to deal with a high ball. And Yaxley had the net bulging again on 66 minutes, claiming his hat-trick with a looping near post header. It all seemed a little unfair on Ellingham, who had acquitted themselves so well in the first half, but in truth they looked a different team after the break. They did almost muster a consolation with 10 minutes remaining, when Paul Dunn was presented with an inviting ball into the box, but he headed straight at Marranzine. Full time: Ellingham 0 – 5 Lynn Docklands
