Norton set up title clash.

Grand National day saw 4 teams not even make it to the race as the fixtures between Hearts of Oak v Carlton Rangers and Pot Black v Spexhall were both called off due to player unavailability in the Carlton and Pot Black ranks.

This meant that Norton Athletic would be using up their game in hand on the leaders and despite stuttering over the fence they managed to stumble to a 2-1 win over 3rd place Wrentham with Ryan Hills and Danny Hoadley (Pen) scoring. Stuart Holland scored Wrentham’s also from the spot. This sets up the mouth watering clash as Normanston Park this week with Hearts holding a 2 point advantage.

The shock result of the day was at Southwold Common where Sole Bay United Res. scored a 2-0 win over a Kirkley & Pakefield A side that have drastically lost form. One would think that now sees Sole Bay survive in the division.

The other fixture saw Waveney Youth run out 4-1 winners at Oxford Arms with Ray Winney netting a hat-trick and taking his personal tally past the 20 goal barrier for the campaign.

The second division sees Hearts of Oak Res. red hot favourites following their 5-1 win over White Horse Seltic and Barsham 2-1 reverse at Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. In face Barsham slip to third as Blundeston Magpies recorded a 3-1 victory at Royal Standard however Barsham have two games in hand.

Caxton Res. stay in with an outside chance as they beat Crusaders 4-2. Norton Athletic Res. were forced to play the entire game at Pakefield Re-United with ten men but they battled on gamely and netted a point with a late Michael Collins strike.

Waveney Gunners netted all the points after their 4-1 win over basement boys Lacon Arms and they remain 6th.

The third division saw results go to form as Ole Frank netted an 8-2 win at Oxford Arms. Hopton White Hart were narrow 2-1 winners against Spexhall Res. to stay second and Blundeston Plough ran out 6-1 winners over Westhall who are now guaranteed a bottom two finish in their debut season.

Bungay Town A won by the odd goal of 5 against Factory Arms whilst CDS Waveney Res. collected the 3 points in a 2-0 success at LIFC. Finally Earsham won 5-3 at Blundeston Magpies Res.

Finally the league would like to welcome application from new teams wishing to enter the league for the 2008/09 season. Interested clubs should phone league secretary Mike Johnson on 01502 565518 as a matter of course so register your interest.
