Council pitch games off again

09 October 2009

ALL football matches that are due to take place on council-run pitches in Waveney this weekend have again been postponed.

Waveney District Council and operational partners Waveney Norse were forced to postpone games last weekend due to unusually hard surfaces, and this weekend the Notley's Lowestoft and District Saturday League and the Lowestoft Sunday League schedules are set to be hit again.

A Waveney District Council spokesman said: “Despite some rain during the past seven days, pitch conditions have not improved.”

Last weekend, the conditions presented “a genuine risk to player safety,” as well as “longer-term damage to the pitches” themselves, and with not enough rain this week, it seems local amateur footballers will have to wait longer to play on the council-run pitches again.

hope this means when we do get a downpour and the pitches are a little damp, we dont get called off for "water logged" pitches as easily as we usually do, we would all rather play on a very soft pitch than a bone dry one.

What a Joke!!! The Barsham game against Blundston was called off on Saturday, but a few meters behind one goal the Beccles Rugby club game was still played, and a few metres awy behind the other goal the Beccles Town game was also still played. I got a Suffolk FA offical who was at the Beccles game to look at our Beef Meadow pitch and he said it was perfect for playing football. Can someone tell me why our game was off when games either side were played?
