Football likely to return to pitches in Waveney

FOOTBALL looks set to return to Waveney this weekend, after council pitches were today given the all-clear.

The grounds maintenance team at Waveney District Council today (Friday) confirmed that after pitch inspections at Dip Farm, Normanston Park and in Beccles the council-run grounds “will be fit for play this coming weekend.”

The announcement, which will mean that teams in the Notley's Lowestoft and District League and Lowestoft Sunday League will return to action “subject to the weather conditions changing.”

Fears had risen earlier in the week that another blank weekend may be in the offing following the recent rain that had sparked concerns of flooding after the onset of snow.

But as of today the games have been given the go-ahead for tomorrow and Sunday, after almost a month of inactivity due to the festive break and wintry weather.

“The Leagues may be asked to show some constraint if we get a lot of rain, and we will be speaking to representatives later today,” a council spokesman said.
