Notley's League Report 13th April.

As we enter the final weeks of the season the first championship has been decided as White Horse Seltic came back from 2-0 down to confirm the second division title following their 3-2 win against Crusaders. They are currently on 63 points with 4 games left whilst nearest challengers Norton Athletic Res. can only get to 62 points if they win their remaining 6 games.

Norton are currently in third following their 2-0 win against Hopton White Hart. Ole Frank are 5 points above in second following a good 3-0 win against Pakefield Re-United but Norton do have 3 games in hand. Pakefield and Hopton sit in 4th and 5th respectively.

At the other end of the table the big game was between Waveney Gunners and Ellingham who were both in danger of relegation but a fine 5-2 win for Ellingham means they now have a chance of staying up although they remain in the bottom two on 20 points. Corton A are still not out of it following their 5-3 reverse against Tudor FC which leaves them on 24 points. Tudor FC did face a midweek defeat at the hands of Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. 4-1 who are sitting on 25 points following their 3-2 reversal against Lowestoft International.

Oxford Arms Reserves who were relegated weeks ago were thumped 8-0 by Bungay Town A.

In the first division Hearts of Oak were inactive so the focus was on Pot Black and Norton Athletic who are battling for the runners up spot. Both sides picked up 3 points as they took on the bottom two sides.

Pot Black recorded a 4-1 win against the ten men of Oxford Arms whilst Norton scored a 5-1 success at Sole Bay United Res. Both sides remain locked on 46 points with Pot Black’s +6 better goal difference separating them. Pot Black do have a game in hand but with the sides still to meet it looks like going to the wire. The defeats for the bottom two means they are both locked on 4 points but with Oxford having 3 games in hand they have survival very much in their own hands.

Elsewhere FC Hearts returned to action with a good 4-1 win at Blundeston Magpies and they look like finishing 4th ahead of Wrentham who scored the only goal in their match with in form Waveney Res.

Beccles Caxton Res. shared the points with Kirkley & Pakefield A as they finished 1-1.

The third division title is still as it was as the top two shared the points for the second time this season at Gt Yarmouth Town Hall and Suffolk Punch finished 1-1 with Town Halls manager Kevin Johnson coming off the bench to secure a late draw. The GY based side are 5 points ahead of their rivals but have played 4 games more.
Lake Lothing in 4th played 3rd placed Harleston Town Res. and scored a very good 4-1 win a result that point them 6 points behind with 4 games to play.

Spexhall Res. consolidated their top 6 place as they netted a single goal win against Earsham who have finished their programme with 29 points and a mid table finish.

Finally their was a good 6-0 win for Kirkley & Pakefield A against Waveney A as they remain in the top 5.

Bank Holiday Monday also saw two more league games played with Beccles Caxton Res and Blundeston Magpies sharing the points in an entertaining 3-3 draw in the first division and Spexhall Res. beating White Horse Seltic Reserves in division 3. A win that sees Spexhall now climb to 4th place.
