Notley's League Report 4th April

This years Brighty Driving Tuition KO Cup Final will be between Hearts of Oak and Waveney Res. as both sides came through their semi final ties without conceding to set up the May 1st Final at Crown Meadow, Lowestoft.

Holders Hearts of Oak were locked in a tight game with Pot Black and edged through courtesy of a late Adam Taylor goal whereas Waveney Res. secured a 2-0 win against Beccles Caxton Res.

In the league Norton Athletic maintained their fight with Pot Black for second place by defeating Kirkley & Pakefield A 3-2 with goals from Hills, Harriman & Green. Norton now sit on level points with Pot Black but have played a game more.

The most exciting game in the division saw Barsham win a 7 goal affair at Blundeston Magpies whose fine early season form has since deserted them.

Wrentham had a comfortable 4-1 win at neighbours Sole Bay Res. whilst FC Hearts failed to turn up for their scheduled game with Spexhall.

The leaders of the second division had a good day as they ran out 3-1 winners at Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. This helped them extend their lead to 14 points as their nearest challengers all dropped points.

Ole Frank amazingly shared 8 goals with Crusaders whilst Norton Athletic were held to a 1-1 stalemate at LIFC. Pakefield Re-United put themselves back in the frame for runners up with a narrow 2-1 win at Bungay Town A whilst Hopton White Hart were also held 1-1 at strugglers Ellingham.

Finally Waveney Gunners ran out 4-0 winners against Oxford Arms Res. to open up a 6 point gap between themselves and Ellingham and leapfrog Oulton Broad in the battle to stay in the division of which Oxford Arms Res. are already doomed.

The third division saw the top two both record wins, GY Town Hall 4-1 at Marquis of Lorne and Suffolk Punch 3-1 against Westhall.

Waveney A and Earsham drew 1-1 in a mid table stalemate whilst Spexhall Res. scored the only goal in their match with Blundeston Magpies Res.

The Harleston Town Res. v Kirkley B match was postponed.

If any new teams are interested in joining the league for the 2009/10 season then please contact secretary Mike Johnson 01502 565518 in the first instance.

JONESY:I'm trying to get myself 'invited' to play in a game at Carrow Road (may 1st)now that i won't be in the final. If i don't get lucky enough, then yes hopefully i will manage to get there. We gave them a hard game and were disappointed to concede so late in the game. There a great attacking side who score bags of goals and to think we frustrated them for 84mins,then yes we gave it a go.In my opinion it was a close game with both sides having only a handful of chances, some half chances at that.I believe you lads should try to smother them too and hope Ray can nick you a goal on the break. All the best mate and enjoy the evening whatever the outcome.
How would you some up your game?

well i'd say thats probably been our weakest display the last 6 weeks and to come away with a 2-0 win was a bonus - they probably had more of the ball than us but only really created real goalscoring chances all game - we scored against run of play through mr reliable and held firm until late in the game when young hunter slotted home. Hopefully we'll be less nervous in the final and just play our own game & get close to them like we did earlier in season.
