League report for Saturday 28th November.

FESTIVE winter warmers are in the offing on the football pitch to raise the temperatures locally as the conditions continue to plummet.
The county cup competitions once again took centre stage last week, as eight league sides were represented in the Suffolk Junior Cup and Suffolk Primary Cup third round ties. And of these, two have made it through to the respective quarter finals in both competitions, with arguably the two form sides in divisions one and two progressing.

Ashley Trindall's equaliser five minutes from the end of extra time forced a penalty shoot out after a 1-1 draw with Anglian Combination side Waveney. And Micki Williams' side prevailed, winning 4-2 on spot kicks, to set up a quarter final trip to Sudbury Athletic.

Division one sides Pot Black and Spexhall were not quite as fortunate as Danny McKinley's side narrowly lost 3-2 to Thurston at Normanston Park - despite goals from Rob Cooper and Gavin Hunt. Spexhall slipped to a 4-1 defeat at high flying Stonham Aspel.

In the Suffolk Primary Cup Pakefield Re-United hit five past Lowestoft International, winning 5-1 to set up a home encounter with Haughley United Reserves in the next round.

Kirkley & Pakefield B team's youngsters were gunned down by high-flying Walsham Le Willows A 5-2, the same scoreline suffered by Suffolk Punch in their trip to Somersham.

The previously-unbeaten Waveney Gunners also fell at this stage, losing 3-1 to Exning Athletic.

In the Norfolk equivalent, there was more success for the league as division two sides Ellingham and Gt Yarmouth Town Hall both progressed, with Norton Athletic Reserves facing a replay tomorrow.

And with the draw not made until today, it will include Ellingham - who beat Costessey Sports 3-1 and Yarmouth Town Hall who smashed Wotton Park Rangers 6-1.

A 0-0 draw after extra time will see Norton Athletic Reserves host MU United Reserves tomorrow, as they look to join their fellow league sides in the next round.

A full fixture list in the league was also played last Saturday, with first division leaders Waveney Reserves further strengthening top spot with a 4-0 win over 12th placed Ole Frank with two goals from Ray Winney, Ian Hunter and G Garrod.

Norton remain in second place after a narrow 2-1 win over Blundeston Magpies, thanks to Paul Harriman two goals (one penalty) as Ronnie Socratous' side slip to eighth.
Oxford Arms now move up into third following a fine 6-2 win over Mutford & Wrentham.

They have also benefited from a league ruling from the previous week, as Hearts of Oak called off their scheduled encounter - meaning a 0-0 draw was set with Oxford
Arms collecting two points and Hearts now slip to fifth after being deducted a point.

The division's leading scorer Josh Woolnough was on the mark once more, along with A Williams, for fourth placed Barsham in the only other league game played as they shared the points in a 2-2 draw with improving K&P A, who are now seventh.
AFC Star return to the top of Division 2 as Pakefield Re-United were in cup action. The Star shone as they beat sixth placed Crusaders 3-0.

With the other higher placed sides in cup action, seventh placed Bungay Town A couldn't take advantage as they were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves.

Hopton move into eighth after a 4-1 away win at 12th placed Sole Bay United Reserves, while tenth placed Corton A beat first from bottom Tudor 5-1 in the only other league game played.

Waveney A returned to the top of division 3 as Waven ey gunners were in cup action. Goals from G Bartley, J Hume and J Day were enough to beat tenth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves 3-0.

Earsham move into third place with a good 3-1 away victory at first from bottom Factory Arms. Sixth placed Spexhall Reserves slipped to a 1-0 home loss to 12th placed Westhall, while seventh placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves also lost out narrowly to eighth placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves, as the visitors triumphed 2-1.

Oxford Arms Reserves scheduled encounter with bottom of the table Carlton Rangers was called off by the visitors, leading to a league ruling of a 0-0 scoreline as Oxford collect two points with Carlton being deducted a point.
