League report 20th November

This week saw the first rounds of the league knockout cup competitions with the first and second division teams competing for the Mike Johnson KO Cup, sponsored by Brighty Driving Tuition and the third division sides playing for the John Moore Shield.

In the KO were there were no upsets as all the fancied teams progressed bar Hearts of Oak whose game at Ellingham wasn’t played due to an ongoing appeal.

The team of the season so far Oxford Arms kept yet another clean sheet as they disposed of second division Beccles Caxton Reserves 12-0.

Waveney Reserves also beat second division opponents in Waveney Gunners as they recorded a 4-1 win with a hat-trick from Ray Winney (11 for the season) and an O.G. the scorers.

Norton Athleic Reserves who are bottom of the second tier made top flight Barsham fight all the way for their second round place after a narrow 3-2 win. Dominic Moore and player manager Jon Green twice bringing Norton level only for Josh Woolnough to score a fine winner for Barsham.

Kirkley & Pakefield A had no trouble in beating Corton White Horse Seltic 10-3 whilst Spexhall progressed 4-0 against in-form Blundeston Magpies.

There were 4-1 wins for Pakefield Re-United against Earsham and for Hopton at Telecom Rovers whilst Waveney A defeated Spexhall Reserves 2-1 as did Crusaders at Lowestoft International.

Norton Athletic were handed a walkover as Corton & Ole Frank failed to raise a team for the third week running and now look set to fold.

In the John Moore Shield the tie of the round was played out on Southwold Common were the Southwold Reserve team lost 5-4 to Royal Oak.

The biggest winners in the competition were Westhall who won 8-0 at Lowestoft Albion whilst high flying Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves won through 3-0 in a tough looking game against Marquis of Lorne.

Kirkley & Pakefield B returned from Mutford & Wrentham Reserves with a 4-2 win whilst Blundeston Magpies Reserves won narrowly 2-1 against Oxford Arms Reserves.

FC Eastport returned from Factory Arms with a 3-2 win to book their quarter final place.

In the few league games that were played saw Gt Yarmouth Town Hall and Pot Black share the spoils in drawing 1-1 on Green Lane whilst there was a top of the table clash in the second division where DK Consultants opened up a 6 point lead after their fine 5-1 win against 3rd placed Mutford & Wrentham.

At the other end of the table Ellingham lost their local derby at Bungay Town A 3-2 and leaves them still searching for their first win after ten games played.

Harleston Town Reserves won 5-1 in their third division clash with Carlton Rangers.
