League Report 15th January 2011

Normal service was resumed this week with all bar three of the scheduled fixtures being played.

We will start in the county primary cups where Hopton reached the semi finals of the Norfolk version after beating Morley Village 3-1. They will now travel to Thetford on 12th Feb to take on Tugas United for a place in the final.

In the Suffolk competition Mutford & Wrentham needed extra time to win 2-1 against East Bergholt United A team to make it three teams from the league in the last eight. Mutford will now travel to Aldeburgh Town whilst DK Consultants will entertain Waveney Gunners ensuring at least one representative in the semi finals.

Hearts of Oak’s scheduled quarter final tie at Mendlesham in the Junior Cup was postponed so they will try again this week.

Moving onto league affairs and it was a good day for the top two Oxford Arms and Norton Athletic who both picked up fine 3-1 home wins against Barsham and Waveney Reserves.

Waveney held a 1-0 lead (Ian Hunter) at Norton but three late goals from Dan Blewitt, Tom Hudson and Andy Green wrapped up a deserved win for the home side and as a result increase the gap over Waveney to 5 points.

Waveney remain in third but with teams beating each other there are 4 points covering them down to tenth placed Barsham.

Other results saw Blundeston Magpies win 3-2 against Pakefield Re-United, Kirkley & Pakefield win 2-1 at Corton White Horse Seltic and Pot Black score the only goal (Scott Daniels) in their match against Spexhall.

The second division saw runaway leaders DK Consultants pick up a 6-1 win at Spexhall whilst Waveney Gunners move 3 points clear in second after a hard fought 3-2 win at basement side Norton Athletic Reserves, Adam Orme and Sean Higginbotham scoring for Norton.

Bungay Town A’s recent good form was ended 5-2 by Telecom Rovers who have picked up some good form themselves whilst the points were shared at Earsham following their 1-1 draw against Lowestoft International.

Ellingham suffered a heavy 6-2 home defeat by Crusaders who are up to 5th.

FC Eastport are the new leaders of the third division following their 7-0 win against Southwold Town Reserves. They leapfrog the inactive Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves.

Out of form Marquis of Lorne lost 5-2 to Factory Arms whilst Westhall had a fine 4-1 win at Oxford Arms Reserves who appear to be sliding the wrong way down the table.

Mutford & Wrentham Reserves are having a fine season, their 2-0 win at an out of sorts Kirkley & Pakefield B takes them up to third.

Blundeston Magpies Reserves were the biggest winners of the day 11-1 at Lowestoft Albion and Royal Oak won 4-2 at Carlton Rangers.
