League Report 8th January 2011

After a 4 week break due to bad weather and the Christmas period the league was looking forward to a full fixture list of games however due to the heavy rainfall several games, mainly in the top division were called off due to waterlogged pitches leaving many players kicking their heels for a 5th week.

The only game that did survive saw Kirkley & Pakefield hold Hearts of Oak to a 1-1 draw at Walmer Road. Both sides sit in mid table on 9 points.

All the games in the second division were played and all resulted in away wins of which there were important points picked up by Beccles Caxton reserves and Earsham who both pull away from the bottom two. Caxton won a 7 goal thriller 4-3 at Crusaders whilst Earsham won 3-1 at Waveney A.

The bottom two teams are Ellingham and Norton Athletic Reserves and both are still searching for their first league win. Ellingham went down 3-0 to Telecom Rovers whilst Norton also lost by 3 goals in losing 5-2 to a good looking Spexhall Reserves outfit.

The other game played in the division saw Bungay Town A rise to third place following their 3-1 win at Lowestoft International.

Moving onto the third division where FC Eastport closed the gap on leaders Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves thanks to their fine 6-0 win against third placed Marquis of Lorne. Mutford & Wrentham Reserves now jump above Marquis into third following their 4-1 win at Factory Arms.

At the other end of the table Lowestoft Albion started 2011 as they ended 2010, with another heavy defeat, this time losing 7-0 to Royal Oak.

Blundeston Magpies Reserves had a high scoring 6-3 win against their Oxford counterparts whilst there was a rare win for Southwold Town Reserves as they scored 3 without reply against Carlton Rangers.

The final league game played was the derby between Westhall and Harleston Town Reserves which ended all square 3-3.

Moving onto the Suffolk Primary Cup where we had four teams searching for a quarter final place. Unfortunately the tie between Mutford & Wrentham and East Bergholt A was postponed.

Of the three ties to survive we have two teams progress as DK Consultants defeated Claydon 4-2 and Waveney Gunners returned from Felixstowe Harpers 1-2.

The team to lose is on paper the leagues strongest sides as first division side Waveney Reserves slipped to a 3-2 reverse at Benhall St Mary.
