League Report 22nd January

Finally a full programme of fixtures were completed with the action mainly focussing on the cups where the Mike Johnson KO Cup was playing its second round and the John Moore Shield was at the ¼ final stage.

In the Mike Johnson KO Cup Barsham were the biggest winners of the day as they racked up 9 unanswered goals against second division strugglers Ellingham.

DK Consultants, leaders of the second division and favourites for the title defeated first division Kirkley & Pakefield A 5-0.

Waveney Reserves returned from Crusaders with a 4-1 winning margin whilst Gt Yarmouth also beat second division opponents but were made to work hard for their win by beating Waveney A by the odd goal of five.

Unbeaten Oxford Arms eased to a 4-1 win against Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

In the two all first division ties Pot Black returned from Norton with their last 8 place thanks to a 2-1 win in a hard fought game with Andy Green netting for the home side with Simon Durrant bagging both for L’Orange.

Pakefield Re-United had a fine 3-1 win at Spexhall whilst Bungay Town A defeated Primary cup semi finalists Hopton 2-1, another fine result.

The John Moore Shield saw all 4 away sides win and three of the games were tight affairs all ending 3-2. That was for Blundeston Magpies Reserves at Carlton Rangers, Harleston Town Reserves at Kirkley & Pakefield B and Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves at Westhall. FC Eastport on the other hand caulked up a far easier passage in beating Royal Oak 8-1.

Onto the league games played and Norton Athletic Reserves slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Earsham and with it are now 12 points from safety as Beccles Caxton Reserves surprisingly win 2-1 at title challengers Waveney Gunners and Lowestoft International won 5-2 at Telecom Rovers to pull themselves further away from the bottom two.

Onto the third division and Lowestoft Albion were handed another heavy defeat as they lost 10-1 against Factory Arms.

Mutford & Wrentham Reserves netted a comfortable 7-2 success against Marquis of Lorne whilst Oxford Arms Reserves defeated Southwold Town Reserves 3-0.

Finally the league last representatives in the Suffolk Junior Cup Hearts of Oak failed to reach the last 4 of the competition as they slipped to at Mendlesham who needed an extra time strike to win through 3-2.
