Notleys League Report 19th Feb

A SECOND successive full fixture list saw 18 league and two cup games being played in another eventful week in the Notley’s league.

And despite the conditions, it was certainly raining goals across Lowestoft and Waveney this week as 101 strikes hit the back of the net in the 20 fixtures.

Second division Great Yarmouth Town Hall took all the plaudits after reaching the semi final of the Norfolk Primary Cup after a fine 4-1 away win at Lynn Discovery.

Reigning double champions Hearts of Oak hit back from their league disappointment last week to smash 14 unanswered goals past shell-shocked second division side Corton A in the KO Cup second round.

In league action, the top two sides both won again to maintain in pole position in division one. Leaders Waveney Reserves strengthened their goal difference – which is still inferior to Norton – with a 4-1 away win at 11th placed Corton White Horse Seltic. Second placed Norton are still a point behind as they recovered from 2-0 down to narrowly beat third placed Oxford Arms 3-2 with goals from Dan Blewitt and a brace from Paul Harriman.

Spexhall moved up into fourth with a fine 5-2 away win at previous incumbents Barsham, who slip to fifth, while two goals from Michael Hodgson – including a last minute winner – were vital for Kirkley & Pakefield A in moving them up to sixth with a 2-1 home win over first from bottom Mutford & Wrentham.

Ole Frank remain in eighth place with a fine 4-1 home win over an off-colour Pot Black, Darren Boyd hitting the solitary goal for Danny McKinley’s ninth placed side who still have games in hand.

Blundeston Magpies returned to winning ways to put a halt to Beccles Caxton Reserves recent revival, as Ronnie Socratous’ side triumphed 7-0 to remain in tenth place, with Caxton still at the foot of the table.

In Division two, league leaders AFC Star moved five points ahead of second-placed Pakefield Re-United, as Neil Dale's men slipped to their first league defeat – and the league’s last remaining unbeaten record – of the season as they lost 3-1 away to third placed Suffolk Punch.

They still have two games in hand however on Star, who secured back-to-back 4-1 away wins, this time at tenth placed Norton Athletic Reserves.

Fourth placed Ellingham returned to winning ways with a narrow 3-2 away win at Bungay Town A, who slip again to 12th. Hopton moved up into sixth with a 5-0 home win over eighth placed Crusaders, while Tudor won for the second week running to move up to 11th with a 3-1 away win at ninth-placed Sole Bay United Reserves.

Bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves are finally celebrating being on plus points, as they drew 2-2 away at 13th-placed Lowestoft International, who are still ten points ahead of them.

In Division three league leaders Waveney Gunners continued their impressive form with a 6-0 away win at 13th placed Factory Arms. With second placed Waveney A inactive, third placed Earsham and fourth placed Kirkley and Pakefield B failed to take advantage of their games in hand as Earsham were held to a 2-2 draw by improving Marquis of Lorne in 11th place, while K&P B slipped to a second successive defeat, this time 1-0 away at seventh placed Spexhall Reserves.

Fifth placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves closed the gap with a narrow 3-2 away win at bottom of the table Carlton Rangers, while sixth placed Norman Warrior surprisingly slipped to a 2-1 away defeat at 12th placed Westhall.

Jermy brace breaks champions Hearts

IT was back to action with a full fixture list leading to all 19 league games in the popular three-division Notley's League being played.

And it is a case of almost as you were following Saturday's fixtures as the top sides in the respective divisions all won.

Game of the day in division one saw the league leaders Waveney Reserves beat reigning champions Hearts of Oak 2-0 at Normanston Park. Two goals from Scott Jermy were enough for the leaders to increase their advantage over sixth-placed Hearts of Oak to 16 points - although Micki Williams men still have four games in hand on Shaun Howes side.

Second place Norton are still a point behind the leaders following their 3-0 away win at Mutford & Wrentham, with two goals for Danny Hoadley and another for their leading marksman Paul Harriman.

Now in third place are Oxford Arms, following their narrow 3-2 away win at tenth placed Blundeston Magpies, which moves them to within seven points of the leaders - although they've played a game more.

Barsham slipped to fourth as ninth placed Pot Black - still with games in hand on all their rivals - beat them 1-0 with a solitary goal from Max Wall.

Spexhall remain in fifth after a narrow 3-2 home win over 11th placed Corton White Horse Seltic while bottom of the table Beccles Caxton Reserves, strengthened by their first team not having a game, picked up one of the results of the day with their first win of the season in narrowly defeating seventh-placed Kirkley & Pakefield A 2-1 with two late goals, despite Luke Graham's first-half strike for the visitors.

In Division two, league leaders AFC Star are still two points ahead of second-placed Pakefield Re-United - although Neil Dale's men still have two games in hand.

Star cruised to a 4-1 away win at Crusaders, who slip to eighth, while there was a similar success and scoreline for Pakefield Re-United at first from bottom Lowestoft International as an own goal and strikes from the S force of Sorrell, Sutcliffe and Stephenson completed their win.

Third placed Great Yarmouth Town Hall were inactive, and Suffolk Punch took advantage to move up to fourth with a 3-0 home win over sixth placed Hopton. Ellingham, who were previously in fourth place, slipped to a shock 1-3 defeat at home against Tudor, who move up to 12th.

Norton Athletic Reserves moved up to tenth place with a 3-2 victory over Bungay Town A, who slip to 11th, after two goals from Sam Bensley and Dominic Moore were on the scoresheet for the home side.

Bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves - beset by having points deducted - now have no points, after moving off the minuses as they drew 3-3 with ninth-placed Sole Bay United Reserves.

In Division three league leaders Waveney Gunners continued their march towards the title with an 8-1 demolition away at travel to tenth placed Oxford Arms Reserves. Second placed Waveney A inflicted fourth placed Kirkley and Pakefield B's first home defeat of the season as the visitors went nap in a 5-0 away win.

Third placed Earsham kept up the pressure with a 7-1 home win over first from bottom Factory Arms, while fifth placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves drew 1-1 with ninth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

Norman Warrior are still well placed with games in hand as they moved up into sixth after a 2-0 home win over bottom of the table Carlton Rangers.

Seventh placed Spexhall Reserves lost ground as Blundeston Magpies Reserves swooped to a 2-1 home win to move up to.

In the division's final fixture, Marquis of Lorne moved above Westhall 07 into 11th with a fine 4-3 home win that saw the visitors slip to 12th.

Weekend Preview 5th Feb

THE wintry weather returned with a bang to decimate the league programme once more, as 18 league games and the Suffolk County Primary cup quarter final tie involving Pakefield Re-United all fell foul of the conditions.

Amazingly however, one game did beat the white stuff, as the second division clash between Hopton and Corton A took place. But the home side were perhaps left wishing that they shouldn’t have gone to all the trouble of clearing the pitch at Hopton as they lost 5-1 to Corton A. With this result, the seventh-placed visitors moved up the table to within a point of Hopton, who are sixth.

It is hoped that – weather permitting – the league action will return with a bang tomorrow. And with new kick off times across Waveney of 2.30pm tomorrow, the most intriguing clash looks set to be a taster affair in division one as reigning league champions Hearts of Oak – who like fellow top flight side Pot Black have remarkably only played eight league games thus far – entertain league leaders Waveney Reserves at Normanston Park.

Micki Williams men, who currently sit poised in sixth place with four or five games in hand on sides above them, are 13 points behind the leaders.

Second place Norton travel to fellow village side first from bottom Mutford & Wrentham, while third placed Barsham are also on their travels to play ninth-placed Pot Black who have been boosted recently by new signings.

Fourth placed Oxford Arms travel to tenth placed Blundeston Magpies, fifth placed Spexhall entertain 11th placed Corton White Horse Seltic while bottom of the table Beccles Caxton Reserves host seventh-placed Kirkley & Pakefield A.

In Division two, league leaders AFC Star travel to seventh-placed Crusaders as close rivals in second-place Pakefield Re-United return to league action with a trip to 12th placed Lowestoft International.

Third placed Great Yarmouth Town Hall are inactive tomorrow, while fourth placed Ellingham entertain first from bottom Tudor.

Fifth placed Suffolk Punch host sixth placed Hopton, while 11th placed Norton Athletic Reserves entertain 10th placed Bungay Town A. Bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves host ninth-placed Sole Bay United Reserves in the other fixture.

In Division three league leaders Waveney Gunners travel to tenth placed Oxford Arms Reserves. The division’s game of the day looks set to be the clash between second place Waveney A and their visit to fourth placed Kirkley and Pakefield B, who are level with their opponents on the same points but have an inferior goal difference.

Third placed Earsham – also level on points with Waveney A and K&P B – host first from bottom Factory Arms, while fifth placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves entertain ninth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

Seventh placed Spexhall Reserves travel to ninth placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves, while eighth placed Norman Warrior host bottom of the table Carlton Rangers.

In the division’s final fixture, 12th placed Marquis of Lorne host 11th placed Westhall 07.
