League report for Saturday 28th November.

FESTIVE winter warmers are in the offing on the football pitch to raise the temperatures locally as the conditions continue to plummet.
The county cup competitions once again took centre stage last week, as eight league sides were represented in the Suffolk Junior Cup and Suffolk Primary Cup third round ties. And of these, two have made it through to the respective quarter finals in both competitions, with arguably the two form sides in divisions one and two progressing.

Ashley Trindall's equaliser five minutes from the end of extra time forced a penalty shoot out after a 1-1 draw with Anglian Combination side Waveney. And Micki Williams' side prevailed, winning 4-2 on spot kicks, to set up a quarter final trip to Sudbury Athletic.

Division one sides Pot Black and Spexhall were not quite as fortunate as Danny McKinley's side narrowly lost 3-2 to Thurston at Normanston Park - despite goals from Rob Cooper and Gavin Hunt. Spexhall slipped to a 4-1 defeat at high flying Stonham Aspel.

In the Suffolk Primary Cup Pakefield Re-United hit five past Lowestoft International, winning 5-1 to set up a home encounter with Haughley United Reserves in the next round.

Kirkley & Pakefield B team's youngsters were gunned down by high-flying Walsham Le Willows A 5-2, the same scoreline suffered by Suffolk Punch in their trip to Somersham.

The previously-unbeaten Waveney Gunners also fell at this stage, losing 3-1 to Exning Athletic.

In the Norfolk equivalent, there was more success for the league as division two sides Ellingham and Gt Yarmouth Town Hall both progressed, with Norton Athletic Reserves facing a replay tomorrow.

And with the draw not made until today, it will include Ellingham - who beat Costessey Sports 3-1 and Yarmouth Town Hall who smashed Wotton Park Rangers 6-1.

A 0-0 draw after extra time will see Norton Athletic Reserves host MU United Reserves tomorrow, as they look to join their fellow league sides in the next round.

A full fixture list in the league was also played last Saturday, with first division leaders Waveney Reserves further strengthening top spot with a 4-0 win over 12th placed Ole Frank with two goals from Ray Winney, Ian Hunter and G Garrod.

Norton remain in second place after a narrow 2-1 win over Blundeston Magpies, thanks to Paul Harriman two goals (one penalty) as Ronnie Socratous' side slip to eighth.
Oxford Arms now move up into third following a fine 6-2 win over Mutford & Wrentham.

They have also benefited from a league ruling from the previous week, as Hearts of Oak called off their scheduled encounter - meaning a 0-0 draw was set with Oxford
Arms collecting two points and Hearts now slip to fifth after being deducted a point.

The division's leading scorer Josh Woolnough was on the mark once more, along with A Williams, for fourth placed Barsham in the only other league game played as they shared the points in a 2-2 draw with improving K&P A, who are now seventh.
AFC Star return to the top of Division 2 as Pakefield Re-United were in cup action. The Star shone as they beat sixth placed Crusaders 3-0.

With the other higher placed sides in cup action, seventh placed Bungay Town A couldn't take advantage as they were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves.

Hopton move into eighth after a 4-1 away win at 12th placed Sole Bay United Reserves, while tenth placed Corton A beat first from bottom Tudor 5-1 in the only other league game played.

Waveney A returned to the top of division 3 as Waven ey gunners were in cup action. Goals from G Bartley, J Hume and J Day were enough to beat tenth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves 3-0.

Earsham move into third place with a good 3-1 away victory at first from bottom Factory Arms. Sixth placed Spexhall Reserves slipped to a 1-0 home loss to 12th placed Westhall, while seventh placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves also lost out narrowly to eighth placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves, as the visitors triumphed 2-1.

Oxford Arms Reserves scheduled encounter with bottom of the table Carlton Rangers was called off by the visitors, leading to a league ruling of a 0-0 scoreline as Oxford collect two points with Carlton being deducted a point.

Notleys League Report 21/11/09

APPROACHING December, and with the majority of teams having played eight games in the popular three-division league only four sides still boast unbeaten records.

And of those teams - Waveney Reserves and Hearts of Oak in division one, Pakefield Re-United in division two and Waveney Gunners in division three - it is only the Gunners who've fired a perfect record with seven wins from their seven league games.

First division leaders Waveney Reserves maintained top spot and made it six wins and two draws from eight games with a 3-0 win over 10th placed Corton White Horse Seltic.

Norton move into second after an 8-0 demolition against bottom of the table Beccles Caxton Reserves, with goals for Andy Green 3, Paul Harriman 2, Michael Ball, Rory Spinks and Kevin Briers.

Barsham and Hearts of Oak, in third and fourth respectively, were both without games as the reigning champions have only played five league games thus far - with four wins and a draw under their belts.

Spexhall move into fifth place as they gained revenge for a cup defeat the previous week against Pot Black to beat Danny McKinley's side 3-2 at Normanston Park, despite goals for Darren Boyd and Adam Bird for the eighth-placed home side.

With sixth placed Oxford Arms without a game, seventh placed Blundeston Magpies lost their unbeaten league record when going down to Kirkley & Pakefield A's youngsters 1-0, who are ninth.

In the only other game in the division, 12th placed Ole Frank had a fine 2-1 win at 11th placed Mutford & Wrentham.

There were shocks in division two as the previously unbeaten top two - AFC Star and Pakefield Re-United - both lost their 100pc records in their eight matches.

Pakefield Re-United now top the table after Hone's goal secured a 1-1 home draw with Hopton. AFC Star however slipped to a 4-2 defeat away at fifth placed Great Yarmouth Town Hall.

Suffolk Punch move into third place after a 4-0 home win over bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves, as Ellingham slipped to fourth after their a 4-3 defeat at 13th placed Tudor.

Seventh placed Bungay Town A shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw with tenth placed Lowestoft International, while eighth placed Norton Athletic Reserves hit seven in a convincing 7-3 win over 12th placed Corton A in the only other league game played as Daniel Robinson 3, Jon Green 2, Steve Rivett and Gary Crisp were on the mark for the village side.

Kirkley & Pakefield B remain in third after a good 1-0 home win (Ben Atkins) over 12th placed Factory Arms. Fourth placed Norman Warrior drew 1-1 with tenth placed Marquis of Lorne.

Spexhall Reserves move up to sixth after a good 3-2 home win over Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves, while eight-placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves lost again, this time 4-2 to ninth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

Three through in Suffolk Junior Cup

WITH five teams involved in Suffolk Junior Cup action this week, there was a slightly reduced division one programme in the league.

Three sides still remain in the county cup, following big wins for Pot Black, Spexhall and Hearts of Oak. Goals from Max Wall, Gavin Hunt, Rob Cooper, Adam Bird and a brace for Vinny Terry saw Danny McKinley's side hit Acton Crown for six in a convincing 6-0 win at Normanston Park.

In the all division one encounter at Walmer Road, Spexhall fired in four without reply over Kirkley and Pakefield A as goals from Karl Brennan, Asa Mcgill, Danny Milne and Lee Blackley booked their spot in the next round.

They'll be joined by defending league champions Hearts of Oak who beat Lawshall Swann 4-0 away. Corton White Horse Seltic lost narrowly 3-1 in the second round tie against Halesworth Town.

In the league, leaders Waveney Reserves maintained top spot with a 3-1 win over Oxford Arms with goals for Tom Beals, Ian Hunter and Ray Winney.

Barsham remain in second place after an entertaining 3-3 draw with the still unbeaten sixth placed Blundeston Magpies. The division's leading scorer Josh Woolnough hit a hat trick for the home side, and they led 3-1 until late in the game when the never-say-die Magpies hit back.

Norton Athletic moved up to fourth with a convincing 7-0 home demolition of 11th placed Mutford & Wrentham. Danny Hoadle's hat trick, Paul Harriman with two and goals for Andy Green and Tom Hudson sealed the win.

Ole Frank went one goal better as they picked up their first win in the top division in beating basement side Beccles Caxton Reserves 8-2 away.

Eighth placed Norton Reserves took the lead in their clash with league leaders AFC Star, with a goal from Gary Crisp, but the Star maintained their perfect start convincingly winning 8-1 in the end.

They are now six goals ahead of joint leaders Pakefield Re-United, with both sides boasting seven wins from their opening seven games. Goals from Harlow, Sutcliffe and two from Coote were enough to secure a fine 4-0 away win at fifth placed Gt Yarmouth Town Hall.

Ellingham move into third with a narrow 3-2 home win over bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves. Crusaders remain in fifth after slipping to a 2-0 away win at seventh placed Bungay Town A.

Hopton move up to ninth after an entertaining 5-3 win over 13th placed Tudor, while Lowestoft International are 12th after a close 2-1 win over 11th placed Sole Bay United Reserves.

In division three, only one team still has a 100pc start to the new season - with former leaders Waveney Gunners still in second place with six wins from their first six games, as they narrowly beat fifth placed Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves 1-0.

Waveney A still top the table and are a point ahead of The Gunners, but they've played three games more. Victory on Saturday was secured for the leaders with a fine 6-2 away win at 13th placed Westhall.

Norman Warrior replace Kirkley & Pakefield B in third place, after the former beat 12th placed Factory Arms 3-1 away. The latter slip to fourth after drawing 2-2 away at tenth placed Oxford Arms Reserves.

In arguably the closest contest of the day, sixth placed Earsham shared ten goals in an entertaining 5-5 draw with eighth placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves.

Spexhall Reserves are up to seventh after a 7-0 away demolition at basement side Carlton Rangers. In the only other league game played in division three, Marquis of Lorne left it late to move up to ninth in the table with their second win of the season - a 2-1 home victory over 11th placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

Notley's League Report 5th November

THE popular three division league continues to gather pace as a full fixture list has been completed in the past fortnight following the recent cancellation of matches.

To highlight this, only three teams from the 41 sides across the three divisions have managed to play eight league games thus far as the season moves into November.

The current campaign is also proving to be a tough one to call in all three leagues, with just six teams now boasting unbeaten records – and only three of these have unblemished 100pc credentials.

In division one, Waveney Reserves head the table with four wins and two draws from their six games. Champions Hearts of Oak continue to threaten and have moved ominously into third place, just a point behind the leaders with a game in hand. Two goals from Kirk Gowing and Joel Bray’s strike were enough to seal a 3-0 home win over Spexhall, who are now fifth.

Second-placed Barsham slipped to their second league defeat of the campaign with a 2-4 home defeat against seventh-placed Oxford Arms. Adam White’s brace for the home side wasn’t enough as Danny Newrick hit a hat trick, with fellow striker Ash Leggett also on the mark for The Arms.

Fourth placed Norton Athletic also fell to their second league defeat at home to a continually impressive Blundeston Magpies side. Andy Green and Paul Harriman had given the home side the lead, but eighth placed Blundeston – who despite being unbeaten have slipped down the table after having three points deducted – hit back with some late goals to win 3-2.

Sixth-placed Pot Black beat bottom of the table Ole Frank 5-1 with goals for Adam Bird, Ian Wilson, Gavin Hunt and two for Vinny Terry.

Corton White Horse moved up to ninth with a convincing 7-1 win over Beccles Caxton Reserves. In the only other match played between two first division one sides – Mutford & Wrentham and Kirkley and Pakefield A – the visitors progressed to the next round of the cup after winning 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Former K&P A boss Shaun Norman was the hero, as he excelled in goal with two shoot-out saves.

AFC Star and Pakefield Re-United continue to shine at the top of division two with both boasting six wins from their six league games.

AFC Star scored a last minute winner to beat sixth-placed Suffolk Punch 3-2. Pakefield Re-United meanwhile kept the pressure on with a 4-0 win at home to 10th placed Sole Bay United Reserves, courtesy of an own goal and others for Harlow, Chapman and Hone.

Third placed Ellingham narrowly beat 11th placed Hopton 3-2, with goals from M Griffen, O Rushmere and D Fowles. Fourth placed Crusaders drew 1-1 with bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves, fifth placed Great Yarmouth Town Hall had a good 5-2 away win at 12th placed Tudor.

There was a thriller at Norton, as the village side’s reserves team were 3-1 down against Lowestoft International, but battled back to draw 4-4 – with a hat trick for Daniel Robinson and a goal from Steve Rivett – in a result that puts Norton reserves in seventh and Lowestoft International first from bottom.

In the only other league game played, Corton A moved up to ninth after beating eight placed Bungay Town A 3-1.

In division three, only one team has maintained a 100pc start to the new season – with former leaders Waveney Gunners now in second place with five wins from their five games, as The Gunners went nap at seventh-placed Spexhall Reserves winning 5-0.

Waveney A top the table and are a point ahead of The Gunners, but they’ve played three games more. Victory on Saturday was secured for the leaders with an 8-1 demolition of 10th placed Oxford Arms Reserves.

Kirkley & Pakefield B continue to move upwards and the youngsters are now third, three points behind the leaders, after a 4-1 home win over 12th placed Marquis of Lorne – with two goals for Luke Graham and others from Tom Banger and Elliot Reynolds.

Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves are also three points behind the leaders in fourth after a 1-1 draw with eighth placed Blundeston Magpies Reserves.

Norman Warrior are fifth after a 2-0 home win over ninth placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves. Earsham’s fine 4-0 away win at first from bottom Westhall moves them up to sixth.

In the only other league game played in division three, Factory Arms moved up to 11th place with a 5-1 home win over bottom of the table Carlton Rangers.

Council pitch games off again

09 October 2009

ALL football matches that are due to take place on council-run pitches in Waveney this weekend have again been postponed.

Waveney District Council and operational partners Waveney Norse were forced to postpone games last weekend due to unusually hard surfaces, and this weekend the Notley's Lowestoft and District Saturday League and the Lowestoft Sunday League schedules are set to be hit again.

A Waveney District Council spokesman said: “Despite some rain during the past seven days, pitch conditions have not improved.”

Last weekend, the conditions presented “a genuine risk to player safety,” as well as “longer-term damage to the pitches” themselves, and with not enough rain this week, it seems local amateur footballers will have to wait longer to play on the council-run pitches again.

Barsham hit top spot after goal romp

NOTLEY'S LOWESTOFT AND DISTRICT LEAGUE ROUND UP

A MAJORLY reduced programme saw just five league games and one cup match played as the weather took its toll on the Notley's Lowestoft and District League.

With all football matches that were due to take place on council-run pitches last weekend postponed last Friday >, Waveney District Council and operational partners Waveney Norse confirmed the fixtures were cancelled because of the lack of rain in recent months.

The unusually hard surfaces were highlighted as presenting “a genuine risk to player safety,” as well as “longer-term damage to the pitches” themselves.

Waveney Operations Manager Andy Wilson-Sutter said: “The surfaces are bare and bone hard and there is no question of games going ahead with conditions as they are. “Naturally we are frustrated that we have been forced in to this decision and obviously we will work closely with the leagues to ensure any backlog of games are accommodated before the end of the season,” he added.

However, there was some football played on school and village pitches. And in all three divisions those games that were played have affected the top of the tables.

New leaders in division one are Barsham, after they made it four matches unbeaten in another demolition - this time beating bottom of the table Beccles Caxton Reserves 8-1.

The division's leading goalscorer Josh Woolnough fired in a four-goal salvo, with further goals for S King, A Williams, M Howard and N Holmes, as Barsham now head the table on goal difference ahead of Spexhall and previous leaders Waveney Reserves.

Spexhall took advantage of other games not being played to move up to second place as Paul Batley solitary strike gave them a 1-0 win at Corton White Horse Seltic, who remain second bottom.

In division two, Pakefield Re-United moved three points clear at the top of the table after inflicting the first defeat on previous leaders 2-1 at the village side with goals for Stokes and John Attridge.

In the only other game played in the division, Suffolk Punch moved into third after a fine 9-2 away win at tenth placed Tudor.

In the only game played in division three, previous leaders Waveney A slipped into second after a 3-0 defeat at sixth placed Spexhall Reserves.

The unbeaten Waveney Gunners were the beneficiaries of this as they returned to the top of the table.

In the only other match played involving Notley's Lowestoft and District League sides, Norton Athletic Reserves beat South Walsham Reserves 3-1 (D Robinson 2, S Hobart) in the Norfolk Primary Cup first round replay.

League Report 25th September

WITH the football season approaching the first full month of completed fixtures tomorrow, already a number of trends seem to be emerging.

From the 41 teams in the popular three division league, only six sides go into tomorrow's games boasting a 100pc record.

Two of the big-hitters in division one - Hearts of Oak and Norton - who are third and fourth respectively, have maximum points from their two games played.

Micki Williams' Hearts of Oak side raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes against last season's runners-up Pot Black, and eventually triumphed 6-1 with a brace of goals for Adam Taylor and Kirk Gowing, as Ant Field and Jason Belmore also got on the scoresheet.

Black added a second half penalty from Richie Reeder as a consolation.

Norton were in Norfolk Junior Cup action last Saturday as they slipped to a 2-1 (own goal) defeat at Stalham Town Reserves, and they are also without a league match tomorrow.

Also unbeaten Blundeston Magpies now top the table after a solitary Yip Chong goal in a 1-0 away win over Kirkley and Pakefield A.

Previous leaders Waveney Reserves remain unbeaten as well after a 2-2 draw with Spexhall, with Ian Hunter and Ray Winney again on the mark for the home side and Gary Boon and Joe Hadingham replying for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Mutford & Wrentham, Barsham and Oxford Arms all secured their first wins.

Mutford & Wrentham move up to fifth after a 12-0 demolition of bottom of the table Beccles Caxton Reserves.

Gary Warford hit four goals, with braces for Luke Smith, Phil Sayers and Matt Lockwood and a goal apiece for Shaun Wigley and Darren Renwick in the convincing win.

Barsham are sixth after Josh Woolnough's two goals, with Adam White and James Green also notching in their 4-1 win over Ole Frank.

Oxford Arms are ninth after a 1-0 win over second from bottom Corton White Horse Seltic.

Three teams boast 100pc records in division two, with leaders Ellingham and AFC Star having won all three of their games and Pakefield Re-United - who weren't in action last Saturday - are not far behind with two wins from the two games they've played thus far.

There were goals aplenty throughout the division last Saturday.

Another hat trick for Ellingham's Olly Rushmere and a goal from Ben Bishop secured a 4-1 win for the leaders over Sole Bay United Reserves (T Pennington).

AFC Star went one better and won 5-0 away at Corton A. Crusaders are in third place after a 5-2 home win over Hopton.

Gt Yarmouth Town Hall were in seventh heaven as they moved up to fourth in the table with a 7-0 win Norton Athletic Reserves, with Matty Anderson hitting five for the home side.

Bungay Town A hit six in their convincing 6-1 away win at Tudor, with Tim Taylor hitting four for the north Suffolk side. But in the most keenly contested game of the day, Lowestoft International were 4-0 down away at Suffolk Punch but fought back to narrowly lose 4-3.

In division three, only one team has maintained a 100pc start to the new season - with Waveney Gunners topping the table with three wins from their three games.

In a battle of the unbeaten sides last Saturday, The Gunners beat Norman Warrior 3-1.

Notley's League Report 12th September

THAT WINNEY FEELING

AFTER most teams have completed two games in the three division Lowestoft Saturday league, a number of sides are already sharing the lead at the top of the respective tables.

Waveney Reserves and Norton Athletic both head up Division One after two wins from two, and a similar goal difference.

Four goals from last season's leading goalscorer in division one, Ray Winney, gave Waveney a 6-2 away win at K&P A with other goals from Paul Jones and Dean Hurren.

Danny Hoadley's brace was enough to help Norton to a 4-1 away win at Corton White Horse Seltic, with Paul Harriman and Andy Green also on target.

Previous leaders Blundeston Magpies now sit third after a 2-2 away draw at Ole Frank, with goals for Crowe and Macias for Ronnie Socratous' side.

Spexhall started their campaign with a 4-3 win over Oxford Arms, with a brace for Danny Milne and goals from Ryan Coleman and Karl Brennan.

Mutford & Wrentham and Barsham both picked up their first point of the new campaign with a 2-2 draw, with goals for Luke Smith, Phil Sayers for the home side and Tim Roberts, Adam White for Barsham.

With both Waveney and Norton inactive tomorrow, the big match of the day will see last season's top two collide at Normanston Park.

An early first meeting of the season, in only their second game each of the new campaign, sees champions Hearts of Oak host Pot Black.

Something will have to give as both sides - who sit joint fourth - won their opening games a fortnight ago.

In the game of the day in Division Two, AFC Star made it two wins from two with a narrow 2 -1 win over previously unbeaten Suffolk Punch.

They head the table with Ellingham - who were 4-1 victors away at Norton Athletic Reserves (Olly Rushmere 2, Lee Squires, Paul Dunn) - and Pakefield Re-United, who went one better and won 5-1 at Bungay A (Michalski 2, Coote, Sutcliffe, Hone).

Crusaders, who won 3-0 away at Corton A, are also joint top but they've played a game more than their rivals.

Elsewhere, Gt Yarmouth Town Hall picked up their first points following promotion with a convincing 8-0 away win at Sole Bay United Reserves.

Tudor also picked up their first points with a 5-3 away win at Harleston Town Reserves, as did Hopton and Lowestoft International, who shared a point apiece in a 1-1 draw.

Norman Warrior head division three with a superior goal difference ahead of the also unbeaten Waveney Gunners and Oxford Arms Reserves.

The leaders dispatched Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves convincingly 8-1, while The Gunners beat Waveney A 5-3 and The Arms fired in three without reply against Spexhall Reserves.

After an opening day draw, Blundeston Magpies Reserves and Kirkley & Pakefield B are in fourth and fifth following respective wins 2-0 away at Factory Arms and 3-2 over Mutford & Wrentham Reserves at Walmer Road.

In the remaining two games in the division, four sides all picked up their first point of the new campaign.

Carlton Rangers and Marquis of Lorne shared an exciting 0-0 draw, while village sides Earsham and Westhall fought out a 1-1 draw to open their accounts.

Weekly Round Up Saturday 5th September.

Notley's Lowestoft and District League round-up

MOST of the teams in the popular three-division Saturday League have started the new football season, with a number of early indicators being shown for the rest of the campaign.

In division one, champions Hearts of Oak and their nearest challengers Pot Black and Norton are all off the mark with impressive wins.

Hearts of Oak beat Mutford & Wrentham 4-0 at Normanston Park, with a brace of goals for Adam Taylor, while Ant Field and Kirk Gowing were also on the scoresheet.

Pot Black impressively beat Oxford Arms 5-1 away at Dip Farm. Goalscorers were Darren Laws, new signing Ian Wilson, Gav Hunt, Max Wall and Adam Bird. Norton Athletic also triumphed, beating newly-promoted Ole Frank 3-1, with goals for debutant Dan Blewitt, Dan Hoadley and Tom Hudson.

Elsewhere in division one, there were wins for Kirkley & Pakefield A, who beat Barsham 1-0, and Waveney Reserves won the battle of the reserve sides beating Beccles Caxton Reserves 3-2.

In division two, a hat trick from Rory Spinks gave Norton Athletic Reserves a fine 6-0 win at Crusaders. Two goals from Jack Fairhead were enough for a 2-0 win for Bungay Town A over newly-promoted Harleston Town Reserves.

Ellingham, Sole Bay United Reserves, Suffolk Punch and AFC Star were all in the goals as well. Ellingham beat Hopton 7-0, Sole Bay Reserves hit Corton A for six, Suffolk Punch went nap in a fine 5-1 win over fellow promoted side Yarmouth Town Hall, while AFC Star beat Lowestoft International 4-1.

Goals from Coote, Sutcliffe and Stephenson gave Pakefield Re-United a good 3-2 over Tudor.

Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves and Oxford Arms Reserves both hit four goals apiece in division three as they beat Carlton Rangers 4-0 and Marquis of Lorne 4-2 respectively.

Waveney Gunners were the big winners in division three with a 5-2 win over Westhall at Dip Farm. Elsewhere, there were wins for Norman Warrior and Waveney A, while Blundeston Magpies Reserves and Kirkley & Pakefield B shared the spoils in the only drawn encounter of the day with a 1-1 draw at Dip Farm.

Notley's league set for big kick off

AFTER a busy pre-season of work off the field, with managerial moves and transfer tradings taking centre stage, a full programme of action on the football field returns tomorrow.

The popular three division Lowestoft league returns with some new names and faces as sides battle it out once more.

With Division One champions Hearts of Oak and their nearest challengers Pot Black and Norton all having strengthened their squads in the close season, an intriguing campaign lies in store.

And starting the ball rolling on the league season last Saturday there were two fixtures played. In division one, Ronnie Socratous' Blundeston Magpies side - including four new signings - beat Caxton Reserves 8-1.

In Division Two, newly promoted Harleston Town Reserves found opening day opponents Crusaders a tough nut to crack as the visitors triumphed 2-0.

Tomorrow, champions Hearts of Oak open their campaign with a tough looking encounter against the newly merged Mutford & Wrentham side. Norton entertain the promoted Ole Frank, while Pot Black travel to a strengthened Oxford Arms side.

In division two, a strong-looking AFC Star side travel to Lowestoft International while two of the other promoted sides clash in a mouthwatering opening day encounter as Suffolk Punch host Great Yarmouth Town Hall.

Youth starlets of the future are likely to be blooded into senior football in Division Three.

The league will also be represented in this year's Suffolk FA county cup competitions, with the following draws having recently been made:

Suffolk FA Junior Cup first round (to be played October 17): Blundeston Magpies v Hearts of Oak, Beccles Caxton v Spexhall, Ole Frank v Halesworth Town, Corton White Horse Seltic v Mutford & Wrentham, Pot Black v Oxford Arms, Barsham v Kirkley & Pakefield A, Waveney v AFC Star.

Suffolk FA Primary Cup first round (to be played September 26): Crusaders v Norman Warrior, Westhall v Suffolk Punch, Corton A v Factory Arms, Carlton Rangers v Halesworth Town Reserves Lowestoft International v Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves, Waveney Gunners v Spexhall Reserves.

Beccles Caxton Reserves 1, Blundeston 8

WITH four new players strengthening the Magpies squad and the return of keeper McNamara from a broken collarbone things were looking good for Magpies.

And they took Caxton by storm finding themselves 4-0 up within the first 16 minutes, through braces from James Cossey and Crowe.

Caxton pulled a goal back, but in the second half Magpies tightened up and Harrison got the goal he deserved.

New boy Lilly then opened his account, while Martin netted from the penalty spot and assistant reserve manager Tarrant completed the scoring.

Caxton made McNamara make a truly fantastic save in the dying moments.

But the four new boys showed what good signings they are going to be during the season.

Notley's League Report 09th May

With another season completed here is a quick run down of all the winners and losers.

The first division saw Hearts of Oak retain their crown, however the gap was just 4 points in the end as they were pushed all the way by Pot Black who have made great strides this season.

Hearts also retained the KO cup by defeating Waveney Res. 3-2 in the final to continue to be known as the dominant force within the league. Norton Athletic finished 3rd with FC Hearts having a fine season coming in 4th.

Spexhall and Barsham both recovered after poor starts to finish 5th and 7th respectively with Wrentham having a poor end to the season finishing 6th after being among the early leaders. As the other end Sole Bay United Res. finish bottom with Oxford Arms above them and Caxton Res. maintaining their status.

The second division saw runaway leaders in Corton White Horse Seltic who cantered to the title by a 14 point margin. The battle for 2nd was interesting with Ole Frank, Norton Res. and Pakefield all in the running for long spells but it was Ole Frank who got the honour by two points from Norton Res.

At the other end Oxford Arms Res struggled and finished adrift at the foot with Waveney Gunners filling the other relegation spot as Ellingham got the final days points they needed to survive.

The third division was dominated by the new teams with Suffolk Punch winning their battle with GY Town Hall to claim the title and the John Moore Shield.

Harleston Town Res. finished 3rd with Lake Lothing closing in but they had to settle for 4th.

Factory Arms finished bottom but can hold their heads high with their never say die attitude.

The league presentation is to be held at Notley’s on Friday 29th May.

League Report 2nd May.

With just a couple of games to be completed all the domestic issues have now been decided.

On Friday night Hearts of Oak completed their second successive double as they won the Brighty Driving Tuition KO Cup final 3-2 at Crown Meadow, Lowestoft in a close game with Waveney Res.

All the league issues were already resolved with runners up Pot Black signing off with a 4-0 midweek win at 3rd placed Norton and a final day 3-0 win at Caxton Res and the two clean sheets helping them to the best defensive record in the entire league.

Spexhall’s final day 9-0 rout at FC Hearts sees them finish the season in 5th place as they pip Wrentham on goal difference following their 3-3 draw at Barsham who finish comfortable in mid-table.

Oxford Arms netted a final point against Blundeston Magpies after their 1-1 draw.

The second division saw a midweek defeat for champions White Horse Seltic as they crashed 5-2 to Norton Res, but they bounced back on Saturday winning 3-2 in their derby with Corton A. Ole Frank will finish as runners up as they got the win they needed 5-1 at Hopton White Hart and Norton Reserves will finish third in what has been a good season for them.

Ellingham will stay in the division as they won 3-1 at Tudor FC a result that sends Waveney Gunners to the third division whilst Pakefield Re-United signed off with a good 5-2 win against Crusaders as they finish 4th and 6th respectively.

The third division was settled a couple of weeks ago and champions Suffolk Punch ended with a 4-1 win against Kirkley & Pakefield B to finish 7 points clear of Town Hall.

Harleston Town Res. netted the point they needed to secure third as they drew 1-1 at Spexhall Res. whilst Lake Lothing completed a good season by winning 5-1 against Marquis of Lorne to finish 4th.

Notley's League Report 13th April.

As we enter the final weeks of the season the first championship has been decided as White Horse Seltic came back from 2-0 down to confirm the second division title following their 3-2 win against Crusaders. They are currently on 63 points with 4 games left whilst nearest challengers Norton Athletic Res. can only get to 62 points if they win their remaining 6 games.

Norton are currently in third following their 2-0 win against Hopton White Hart. Ole Frank are 5 points above in second following a good 3-0 win against Pakefield Re-United but Norton do have 3 games in hand. Pakefield and Hopton sit in 4th and 5th respectively.

At the other end of the table the big game was between Waveney Gunners and Ellingham who were both in danger of relegation but a fine 5-2 win for Ellingham means they now have a chance of staying up although they remain in the bottom two on 20 points. Corton A are still not out of it following their 5-3 reverse against Tudor FC which leaves them on 24 points. Tudor FC did face a midweek defeat at the hands of Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. 4-1 who are sitting on 25 points following their 3-2 reversal against Lowestoft International.

Oxford Arms Reserves who were relegated weeks ago were thumped 8-0 by Bungay Town A.

In the first division Hearts of Oak were inactive so the focus was on Pot Black and Norton Athletic who are battling for the runners up spot. Both sides picked up 3 points as they took on the bottom two sides.

Pot Black recorded a 4-1 win against the ten men of Oxford Arms whilst Norton scored a 5-1 success at Sole Bay United Res. Both sides remain locked on 46 points with Pot Black’s +6 better goal difference separating them. Pot Black do have a game in hand but with the sides still to meet it looks like going to the wire. The defeats for the bottom two means they are both locked on 4 points but with Oxford having 3 games in hand they have survival very much in their own hands.

Elsewhere FC Hearts returned to action with a good 4-1 win at Blundeston Magpies and they look like finishing 4th ahead of Wrentham who scored the only goal in their match with in form Waveney Res.

Beccles Caxton Res. shared the points with Kirkley & Pakefield A as they finished 1-1.

The third division title is still as it was as the top two shared the points for the second time this season at Gt Yarmouth Town Hall and Suffolk Punch finished 1-1 with Town Halls manager Kevin Johnson coming off the bench to secure a late draw. The GY based side are 5 points ahead of their rivals but have played 4 games more.
Lake Lothing in 4th played 3rd placed Harleston Town Res. and scored a very good 4-1 win a result that point them 6 points behind with 4 games to play.

Spexhall Res. consolidated their top 6 place as they netted a single goal win against Earsham who have finished their programme with 29 points and a mid table finish.

Finally their was a good 6-0 win for Kirkley & Pakefield A against Waveney A as they remain in the top 5.

Bank Holiday Monday also saw two more league games played with Beccles Caxton Res and Blundeston Magpies sharing the points in an entertaining 3-3 draw in the first division and Spexhall Res. beating White Horse Seltic Reserves in division 3. A win that sees Spexhall now climb to 4th place.

Wrentham had a comfortable 4-1 win at neighbours Sole Bay Res. whilst FC Hearts failed to turn up for their scheduled game with Spexhall.

The leaders of the second division had a good day as they ran out 3-1 winners at Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. This helped them extend their lead to 14 points as their nearest challengers all dropped points.

Ole Frank amazingly shared 8 goals with Crusaders whilst Norton Athletic were held to a 1-1 stalemate at LIFC. Pakefield Re-United put themselves back in the frame for runners up with a narrow 2-1 win at Bungay Town A whilst Hopton White Hart were also held 1-1 at strugglers Ellingham.

Finally Waveney Gunners ran out 4-0 winners against Oxford Arms Res. to open up a 6 point gap between themselves and Ellingham and leapfrog Oulton Broad in the battle to stay in the division of which Oxford Arms Res. are already doomed.

The third division saw the top two both record wins, GY Town Hall 4-1 at Marquis of Lorne and Suffolk Punch 3-1 against Westhall.

Waveney A and Earsham drew 1-1 in a mid table stalemate whilst Spexhall Res. scored the only goal in their match with Blundeston Magpies Res.

Town Hall Match Report 17th Jan.

Got back to winning ways with a 4-2 win over Blundeston Magpies Res.at Normanston Park.Hall got into their stride early and for the first 40 minutes played arguably their best football of the season so far. With good use of the ball and some neat one touch passing with the movement to match, Hall had their opponents on the back foot and soon raced into a three goal lead. All three goals came courtesy of Matty Anderson, his second being the pick of the bunch, with a deft calm touch deceiving the
keeper. However five minutes before the break Magpies pulled one back with a strike from long range, and two minutes later reduced the deficit further when skipper Karl Coulson lost his balance allowing the striker to pick his spot.HT 3-2.

Second half saw Hall in control but as the game drew towards its conclusion a one goal margin is never enough, and with both sides hitting the woodwork Hall should have put the game beyond their opponents much earlier in the contest. That finally came 10 minutes from time from James Grant, hitting a crisp low drive into the corner of the net to confirm all three points for Hall.Final score 4-2.In a game that was physical at times, Hall lost both Shane Kingdom and Richard Donavan to injuries, the latter being so unnecessary, and it looks as these lads will be missing for a number of weeks. On a brighter note the manager blooded two youngsters, Jason Smith and Damien Wise from the "Academy" both giving encouraging performances.Good performances on the day also from an assured Rob Leggett at the back,Adam Yaxley pulling the strings in the middle, ably assisted by Rob Ripkey also playing in midfield giving his usual industrious display. However MOM must be hat trick hero Matty Anderson who has started his Hall career with 6 goals in his first 4 appearances.

Notley's League Report 17th Jan 2009.

After last week’s big freeze service was resumed to normal this week and Hearts of Oak showed that they mean business as they defeated nearest title rival’s Wrentham 8-4.

It was the visitors that thought they had the upper hand as they raced into a 2-0 lead but Hearts had other ideas as they clawed back to 2-2 at the break. They ran out easy winners in the second half adding 6 more goals in a game that was marred by a red card for each side.

Hearts stay 7 points clear of Norton following the villagers 5-1 victory against Sole Bay Res. setting up nicely the match between the two sides this coming weekend.

Kirkley & Pakfield A have been blown out of the race the last couple of weeks as this time they surprisingly lost 5-2 at Blundeston Magpies who leapfrog them into 5th place.

Pot Black are in touch following their 5-0 win against Caxton Res. with 4 goals coming in the last ten minutes, and they now have the meanest defence in the division.

FC Hearts are also in touch following their fine 4-0 win at Waveney Res. who are having a stuttering season.

Another team failing to live up to their usual standards are Spexhall as they drew for the 4th time this term as Barsham held them to a 1-1 scoreline.

The second division remains as tight as ever with the top 4 all winning.

White Horse Seltic remain in pole position as they returned from Bungay with a 2-0 win. Ole Frank enjoyed an 8-3 success at Tudor FC. Tudor’s Neil Fox broke his collar bone in the game and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Norton Athletic Res. made it ten games unbeaten as they defeated Crusaders 4-1 to stay 3rd just ahead of Pakefield Re-United whom beat Waveney Gunners by the same scoreline.

Oxford Arms Res. finally gained that elusive win with Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res being the victims 4-2 whilst LIFC enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win against Corton A whose slump continues.

The title in the third division is a 3 horse race with all 3 sides winning.

Leaders Town Hall beat Blundeston Magpies Res. 4-2, whilst favourites Suffolk Punch eased to a 9-0 rout against Factory Arms. Harleston Town Res. managed a 2-0 success at White Horse Seltic Res.

Westhall had a fine 2-1 win against Marquis of Lorne to jump a place whilst Lake Lothing won a 5 goal affair at Earsham to move into mid-division.

Finally Waveney A go 4th following their 3-2 win at Kirkley & Pakefield B.
