League Report 26th March

This years Mike Johnson KO cup sponsored by Brighty Driving Tuition will be between Oxford Arms and DK Consultants the current leaders of the first and second divisions as they both won their semi final encounters by identical 3-2 scorelines.

Oxford Arms defeated Spexhall and DK beat Barsham. The final will be played on Friday 6th May at Crown Meadow.

The John Moore Shield Final to be played on Friday 29th April at Crown Meadow will be contested between Blundeston Magpies Reserves and Harleston Town Reserves as both teams upset the form books in their semi final matches.

Blundeston defeated current division three leaders Corton White Horse Seltic 2-1 whilst Harleston Town Reserves beat FC Eastport 5-2.

Onto league action where Hearts of Oak were held to a 1-1 draw by Waveney Reserves after thumping them 5-1 last week.

Norton Athletic took advantage of the dropped points as they won 2-1 at Pakefield Re-United to close the gap on leaders Oxford to just a point although they have now played two games more.

Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who are the only side to have been beaten by Corton White Horse Seltic gained revenge by beating them 8-2 whilst Kirkley & Pakefield A had a fine 4-2 win over Pot Black.

With leaders DKC in cup action nearest challengers Hopton and Waveney Gunners both picked up 4-2 wins over Norton Athletic Reserves and Lowestoft International respectively.

Another relegation threatened side Waveney A also lost 4-2 in their match with Spexhall Reserves.

Basement side Ellingham were well beaten 7-3 at Crusaders whilst the points were shared in the derby game between Earsham and Bungay Town A 2-2.

Mutford & Wrentham had a comfortable 4-0 win at Beccles Caxton Reserves.

The game of the day in the third division saw Southwold Town Reserves win a 9 goal thriller 5-4 against Royal Oak.

Carlton Rangers scored the only goal in their match with Westhall whilst Factory Arms and Oxford Arms Reserves shared 4 goals and Kirkley & Pakefield B won 3-0 at Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

League Report 19th March

Hearts of Oak were the main beneficiaries on a day that saw the top 4 all drop points as the title race takes another twist.

Leaders Oxford Arms had a tough looking game against in form Pot Black. The match ended all square at 1-1 but Pot Black will rue a missed penalty and the fact they conceded a 93rd minute leveller.

Second placed Norton Athletic failed to take advantage as they lost 3-1 at home to Barhsam but Norton will rue the fact that they had 4 players unavailable and then picked up two injuries in the warm up meaning they played the entire match with a 51 year old in defence and their 60 year old chairman up front.

Hearts of Oak meanwhile put themselves back in the title hunt by disposing of third placed Waveney Reserves 5-1 with goal from Kirk Gowing 2, Jon Williams 2 and Zac Coleman.

Elsewhere the points were shared between Blundeston Magpies and Gt Yarmouth Town Hall 2-2 which was also the result of the Kirkley & Pakefield A v Pakefield Re-United match.

The top three in the second division all picked up three points and all with 3 goal winning margins.

DK Consultants beat Crusaders 3-0 whilst second placed Hopton returned from Bungay Town A 4-1.

Waveney Gunners in third won 3-0 at Telecom Rovers who now slip into the relegation zone as Norton Athletic Reserves the only team in the bottom six to win picked up three points after defeating Beccles Caxton Reserves 5-0.

Spexhall Reserves are up to fourth after their 2-0 win over Lowestoft International whilst Mutford & Wrentham won 3-1 over Waveney A and Earsham beat bottom side Ellingham by the same score.

The leaders of the third division Corton White Horse Seltic lost for the second time as they were beaten 3-0 by FC Eastport who are now just 4 points behind.

Sandwiched in-between are Mutford & Wrentham Reserves who returned from Southwold Town Reserves with a 3-2 success.

Factory Arms continue to pick up the points this week beating Carlton Rangers 2-1 whilst Royal Oak and Westhall battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The points were also shared between Blundeston Magpies Reserves and Oxford Arms Reserves 2-2 whilst Lowestoft Albion lost 6-0 to Kirkley & Pakefield B.

League Report 12th March

The first division title race now looks an interesting affair as leaders Oxford Arms lost for the second time as they went down 2-0 at Spexhall.

Norton Athletic closed the gap to 3 points albeit from a game more following their slender 1-0 win at Gt Yarmouth Town Hall, however Norton and Oxford are yet to meet this season.

Third placed Waveney Reserves were handed a walkover as opponents Pakefield Re-United failed to raise a side whilst fellow contenders Hearts of Oak picked up a 7-1 win against Corton White Horse Seltic.

Pot Black who could still have a say as they have to face all the top teams recorded a fine 2-0 win against Blundeston Magpies to climb above them into 4th place.

Elsewhere Barsham gained a much needed win in beating Kirkley & Pakefield A 2-1.

The top 5 of the second division all picked up three points. Maintaining their 6 point advantage are DK Consultants who defeated Telecom Rovers 4-1. Waveney Gunners remain second following their 2-1 success against Earsham whilst Hopton picked up a fine 2-1 win against Mutford & Wrentham.

Further tight games saw Bungay Town A return from Norton Athletic Reserves with the points following an own goal whilst 5th placed Spexhall Reserves returned from Crusaders with a 2-1 win.

Ellingham’s misery continued as they were beaten 5-0 at Lowestoft International whilst Waveney A picked up a much needed three points in their relegation battle as for the third week running they were involved in a high scoring game this time winning 8-4 at Beccles Caxton Reserves.

The top three in the third division also picked up maximum points as leaders Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves won 3-1 against Carlton Rangers, second placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves won 5-0 against Westhall and third placed FC Eastport won 5-0 against Lowestoft Albion.

4th placed Harleston Town Reserves lost to the only goal against Royal Oak as did Blundeston Magpies in their encounter with a fast improving Factory Arms.

Finally 5th placed Kirkley & Pakefield B were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline against Southwold Town Reserves.

League Report 05th March

The league won’t have a representative in the Suffolk Primary Cup final after DK Consultants lost their semi final 4-2 against Benhall St Mary and join Mutford & Wrentham as losing semi-finalist in this years competition.

The league would like to generate support for Hopton who will be playing Belton in the Norfolk Primary Cup Final on Friday 15th April at Gorleston’s Emerald Park.

Onto league affairs where a full fixture list was completed and it’s as you were at the top of the first division as the big guns all picked up three points.

Oxford Arms whose season has been built on a sold defence kept their 7th clean sheet as they recorded a 4-0 win against Kirkley & Pakefield A.

Norton Athletic remain second and picked up the points following a sterling second half performance. Trailing 3-1 at the break Norton scored 4 unanswered goals in the second half to beat Spexhall 5-3.

Waveney Reserves in fine form won 3-1 at Blundeston Magpies whilst Hearts of Oak gained revenge against Pakefield Re-United by thumping them 6-0.

Pot Black also gained a fine win in beating Barsham 5-2 whilst in the clash of the bottom two sides their was a first win of the season for Corton White Horse Seltic whom beat Gt Yarmouth Town Hall 3-2 but they still remain 4 points adrift having played a game more.

With leaders of the second division DK in cup action it was Waveney Gunners who closed the gap to 6 points albeit from two games more following their 2-0 win at Ellingham.

Hopton with two games in hand moved to within 11 points and did their goal difference no harm after thumping Waveney A 10-1.

Earsham and Mutford & Wrentham battled out a 1-1 draw to remain comfortable in mid table whilst Spexhall Reserves enjoyed a 4-1 derby success against Bungay Town A.

Crusaders put a dent in Norton Athletic Reserves recent upturn in form by hitting them for a 5-1 defeat whilst Beccles Caxton Reserves edge closer to safety after beating Telecom Rovers 6-1.

Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves increased their gap at the top of the third division to 6 points over Mutford & Wrentham Reserves after Seltic beat Factory Arms 5-1 and Mutford were heavily beaten 5-0 by FC Eastport. Eastport now a single point behind Mutford with a game in hand.

The game at Southwold Common produced 7 goals and a 4-3 win for Blundeston Magpies Reserves against Southwold Town Reserves whilst Kirkley & Pakefield B shared 4 goals with Harleston Town Reserves.

Carlton Rangers picked up the points after beating Royal Oak 2-1 whilst Kirkley & Pakefield B defeated Lowestoft Albion 6-0.
