League Report 25th April.

Oxford Arms moved a step closer to securing the first division title following these weeks’ games during which they beat Spexhall 3-1 and Norton Athletic 4-0. They remain 4 points clear of Hearts of Oak and need just 4 points from there remaining 3 games to secure the title. Hearts of Oak picked up maximum points after defeating Pot Black and Blundeston Magpies both 3-0.

Norton Athletic finished their campaign by holding Spexhall to a 2-2 draw on Easter Monday with a side that included 4 reserve team players in the line-up.

Waveney Reserves picked up a 7-1 win against Kirkley & Pakefield A and need 7 points from the nine they have to play for to secure 3rd place from Norton.

Pot Black failed to raise a side for their final fixture at Barsham whilst on Saturday Pakefield Re-United and Spexhall battled out a 3-3 draw.

The top two sides in the second division both picked up 6 points this week as leaders DK Consultants followed up Wednesdays 3-0 win over Lowestoft International with a 6-0 rout of Earsham.

Hopton meanwhile picked up a 6-1 win at Telecom Rovers on Tuesday and followed this with a 4-0 win at Crusaders.

Waveney Gunners whose season has been derailed since Christmas went down 4-2 at Mutford & Wrentham, whom if they in their game in hand could overtake them into 3rd place this following their midweek 1-0 win over Earsham.

It was a good mixed weekend for Spexhall Reserves who won 8-3 at Ellingham on Saturday but lost 4-2 in their Easter Monday derby fixture with Earsham.

At the other end of the table Telecom Rovers beat Beccles Caxton Reserves 3-2 to keep their survival hopes alive whilst Lowestoft International lost their second game of the week losing 2-1 at Bungay Town A. Bungay followed this up by earning a point at Mutford on Monday following their 1-1 draw.

One of the form teams in the division Norton Athletic Reserves who have turned their season around since January won for the 9th time in 12 games as they thrashed Waveney A 7-2.

The third division title race will see Corton White Horse Seltic and FC Eastport battle til the end as they both picked up valuable points.

WHS remain three points clear albeit from a game more following their 5-2 win at Harleston Town Reserves.

FC Eastport though picked up valuable goals in thrashing Blundeston Magpies 13-0 and are ahead by 12 in the goal difference race should this be the decider.

Mutford & Wrentham Reserves look like finishing third after losing 4-1 to Oxford Arms Reserves. This a good week for the pub side after winning 8-1 against Lowestoft Albion during the week.

Westhall had a mixed week following up their 4-0 reverse at Harleston with a 3-2 win against Kirkley & Pakefield B.

Carlton Rangers picked up the full 6 points in beating Lowestoft Albion 5-0 and Blundeston Magpies 4-3 and finally Royal Oak beat Factory Arms 6-4 in an entertaining game at Dip Farm.

Friday sees the final of the John Moore Shield to be played at Crown Meadow. Blundeston Magpies Reserves will clash with Harleston Town Reserves to lift the shield. Kick Off is at 6.30pm. All support welcome.

League Report 16th April 2011

We will start this week’s roundup with massive congratulations to second division side Hopton who won the Norfolk Primary Cup after beating Great Massingham 3-2 in Friday nights final at Plantation Park. Hopton will now be looking to secure the points to guarantee them promotion to the first division which would cap a remarkable season.

Following this weekends’ games and those played in mid-week the first division title race is still no clearer but now looks a straight race between Oxford Arms and Hearts of Oak with Hearts being the big beneficiaries this week. On Tuesday they defeated Kirkley & Pakefield A 6-2 and closed the gap on the two sides above them as Norton Athletic and Oxford Arms battled out a goal-less draw however Hearts then when on to thump an inept Norton 9-1 on Saturday to boost their goal difference whilst realistically ending Norton’s chances.

With Oxford winning 3-1 at Blundeston Magpies they returned to the top of the table and are 4 points ahead of Hearts from the same games but with many difficult fixtures remaining it is still in Oxford hands as they have to play Hearts again where anything other then a defeat should give them one hand on the trophy.

Elsewhere in the division there were some strange results as Spexhall hit Pot Black for a 6-1 win and Barsham beat Corton White Horse Seltic by the same scoreline.

Pakefield Re-United returned to winning ways thanks to their 2-0 win against Kirkley & Pakefield A whilst Gt Yarmouth Town Hall and Waveney Reserves shared the points following their 3-3 draw.

DK Consultants had a good week in picking up another 6 points and boosting their goal difference further as midweek they defeated the current occupiers of second place Waveney Gunners 3-2 whilst for the second Saturday running ran out 10-0 winners this time against Waveney A.

Gunners meanwhile fell to another defeat on Saturday this time losing 2-0 to Bungay Town A.

Mutford & Wrentham are up to fourth place as they beat Spexhall Reserves 3-1.

Earsham are comfortably in mid table following their 2-0 win at Beccles Caxton Reserves whilst Norton Athletic Reserves made it 8 wins in the last 12 games as there 2-1 win over Lowestoft International sees them up to 9th place and means they require just a single point to guarantee safety as Telecom Rovers drew 2-2 with Crusaders to hang on to their slim chances of survival.

The third division title race has been thrown wide open as Corton White Horse Seltic reserves dropped 4 points this week as they were held to two 2-2 draws by Kirkley & Pakefield B in midweek and on Saturday. This coupled with FC Eastports 9-0 win against Oxford Arms Reserves and Mutford & Wrentham Reserves 2-1 win at Harleston Town Reserves means that Corton have 56 points from 22 games, Mutford have 54 from 23 and FC Eastport have 53 from 21 games.

Elsewhere in the division Royal Oak beat Blundeston Magpies 2-1, Southwold Town Reserves beat Carlton Rangers 3-2 whilst Lowestoft Albion scored 4 times but still lost 6-4 to Westhall in a bad tempered game.

League Report 9th April 2011

The first division title race is now realistically down to three teams following this weekend’s fixtures which saw Pot Black’s slim chances almost ended and Waveney Reserves lose further ground.

Pot Black were beaten by leaders Norton Athletic whom saw Andy Green net three with Dan Blewitt the other.

Waveney Reserves in their early KO with Blundeston Mapgies lost 2-1 and are now ten points adrift of the leaders Norton.

Oxford Arms who were long time leaders won 4-0 against the bottom side Corton White Horse whilst Hearts of Oak who are still playing catch up in their games won 3-1 against Barsham to move into third. Barsham were winning this game at the break and missed a penalty in the second half with the scores at 1-1 but hearts hit back in the second half with goals from Kirk Gowing (2) and Luke Falliaze.

This time next week the title destination may be a little clearer as Norton play host to Oxford on Tuesday night before visiting Hearts on Saturday.

Other games in the division saw Gt Yarmouth Town Hall win 4-1 against Pakefield Re-United to give themselves a chance of finishing above Pakefield as they move to within two points with three games remaining.

Elsewhere Kirkley & Pakefield A and Spexhall shared the points following their 2-2 draw.

There is no stopping the top three in the second division as all picked up maximum points.

DK Consultants went on a goal spree in beating Bungay Town A 10-0 whilst second placed Waveney Gunners won 3-1 at 4th placed Spexhall Reserves.

With Hopton also winning 4-1 at Beccles Caxton Reserves it looks like these three sides will finish head and shoulders above the rest.

At the other end of the table and Ellingham who have not won a game this season failed to raise a side at Mutford and Telecom Rovers slipped further adrift after losing 4-2 at Waveney A.

Norton Athletic Reserves who looked doomed at the turn of the year won their seventh game in eleven after a fine 3-1 win against Earsham and this lifted them out of the bottom three.

The final game in the division saw a superb 5-1 win for Lowestoft International against Crusaders.

The third division title is still no clearer as the three contenders all won again. Long time leaders Corton White Horse Seltic won 6-2 at Royal Oak whilst second placed Mutford & Wrentham Reserves picked up a solid 3-0 against Blundeston Magpies Reserves.

Third placed FC Eastport had to work hard for the points at Harleston Town Reserves where they eventually ran out 4-3 winners.

The clash of the bottom two resulted in a 3-0 win for Southwold Town Reserves against Lowestoft Albion whilst Factory Arms’s fine second half to the campaign saw them score the only goal in their match with Westhall.

League report 2nd April

After weeks of call offs due to the weather the league now has to re-arrange 4 fixtures that didn’t take place this week following the failure of the council to appoint a grounds man at Dip Farm meaning the matches scheduled to have been played were postponed as there was no changing room open, nets or posts. This affected the Oxford Arms v Waveney Reserves, Oxford Arms Reserves v Lowestoft Albion and the top of the table clash in division two between Waveney Gunners and DK Consultants.

Oxfords inactivity means that Norton Athletic are the new leaders of the first division following a fine team performance and a 4-1 win against Kirkley & Pakefield A. Norton have a two point advantage but Oxford now have three games in hand and the two are yet to meet this season.

Pot Black picked up three points following their slender 2-1 win against Pakefield Re-United whilst Hearts of Oak returned from Blundeston Magpies with the points following their 4-1 win.

Spexhall hit basement side Corton White Horse Seltic for 6 whilst Gt Yarmouth Town Hall slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Barsham and are now 5 points behind the nearest team above them who are now Pakefield.

With the top of the table clash in the second division being postponed it allowed Hopton to close the gap which they did courtesy of their 2-0 win over Lowestoft International.

The other end of the table sadly sees Ellingham’s fate sealed as their 8-1 thumping at Waveney A and Norton Athletic Reserves 2-1 win at Bungay Town A means that they will definitely finish in the bottom two and be relegated.

Telecom Rovers were heavily beaten 11-2 by Mutford & Wrentham and they are now 4 points from safety and staring down the barrel.

Crusaders won at Spexhall Reserves 3-2 whilst Earsham scored the only goal in their game against Beccles Caxton Reserves.

The leaders of the third division Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves picked up another three points by winning 4-0 at Carlton Rangers whilst the second, third and fourth placed teams also gathered maximum points.

FC Eastport beat Westhall 5-0, Mutford & Wrentham Reserves beat Factory Arms 6-3 and Kirkley & Pakefield B won 2-1 against Royal Oak.

League Report 19th March

Hearts of Oak were the main beneficiaries on a day that saw the top 4 all drop points as the title race takes another twist.

Leaders Oxford Arms had a tough looking game against in form Pot Black. The match ended all square at 1-1 but Pot Black will rue a missed penalty and the fact they conceded a 93rd minute leveller.

Second placed Norton Athletic failed to take advantage as they lost 3-1 at home to Barhsam but Norton will rue the fact that they had 4 players unavailable and then picked up two injuries in the warm up meaning they played the entire match with a 51 year old in defence and their 60 year old chairman up front.

Hearts of Oak meanwhile put themselves back in the title hunt by disposing of third placed Waveney Reserves 5-1 with goal from Kirk Gowing 2, Jon Williams 2 and Zac Coleman.

Elsewhere the points were shared between Blundeston Magpies and Gt Yarmouth Town Hall 2-2 which was also the result of the Kirkley & Pakefield A v Pakefield Re-United match.

The top three in the second division all picked up three points and all with 3 goal winning margins.

DK Consultants beat Crusaders 3-0 whilst second placed Hopton returned from Bungay Town A 4-1.

Waveney Gunners in third won 3-0 at Telecom Rovers who now slip into the relegation zone as Norton Athletic Reserves the only team in the bottom six to win picked up three points after defeating Beccles Caxton Reserves 5-0.

Spexhall Reserves are up to fourth after their 2-0 win over Lowestoft International whilst Mutford & Wrentham won 3-1 over Waveney A and Earsham beat bottom side Ellingham by the same score.

The leaders of the third division Corton White Horse Seltic lost for the second time as they were beaten 3-0 by FC Eastport who are now just 4 points behind.

Sandwiched in-between are Mutford & Wrentham Reserves who returned from Southwold Town Reserves with a 3-2 success.

Sunday 27 February 2011

League Report 26th February

The fixture list this week was decimated by postponements across the region due to the rain with only 1 fixture played in the first division, 4 in the second and one in the Primary Cup.

We will start in the Primary cup where Mutford & Wrentham failed to reach the final as they slipped to a single goal defeat at Great Blakenham. The leagues hops now rest of the shoulders of DK Consultants who will try again this week against Benhall St Mary.

The only game to survive in the first division was between Blundeston Magpies and Pot Black which ended all square at 1 apiece.

The second division saw two high scoring affairs. Firstly in a clash of the bottom two Norton Athletic Reserves thumped Ellingham 8-0. Norton have now won 4 of their last 5 and despite still sitting in the drop zone now have their destiny back in their own hands as a win in their game in hand could see them climb above both Telecom Rovers and Waveney A whilst for Ellingham it looks inevitable that they will drop into the third division having only picked up four points all season and currently 12 from safety.

Telecom Rovers plight was not helped as they slipped to a 1-0 reverse against Waveney Gunners whilst Waveney A were on the wrong end of a 9-4 score line at Crusaders.

The final match to survive saw Hopton record a 2-1 win against Spexhall Reserves.

The league would now like to hear from any new clubs wishing to join in the 2011/12 season. Please contact Secretary Glyn Gray in the first instance, 01493 651261.

After a 4 week break due to bad weather and the Christmas period the league was looking forward to a full fixture list of games however due to the heavy rainfall several games, mainly in the top division were called off due to waterlogged pitches leaving many players kicking their heels for a 5th week.

The only game that did survive saw Kirkley & Pakefield hold Hearts of Oak to a 1-1 draw at Walmer Road. Both sides sit in mid table on 9 points.

All the games in the second division were played and all resulted in away wins of which there were important points picked up by Beccles Caxton reserves and Earsham who both pull away from the bottom two. Caxton won a 7 goal thriller 4-3 at Crusaders whilst Earsham won 3-1 at Waveney A.

The bottom two teams are Ellingham and Norton Athletic Reserves and both are still searching for their first league win. Ellingham went down 3-0 to Telecom Rovers whilst Norton also lost by 3 goals in losing 5-2 to a good looking Spexhall Reserves outfit.

The other game played in the division saw Bungay Town A rise to third place following their 3-1 win at Lowestoft International.

Moving onto the third division where FC Eastport closed the gap on leaders Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves thanks to their fine 6-0 win against third placed Marquis of Lorne. Mutford & Wrentham Reserves now jump above Marquis into third following their 4-1 win at Factory Arms.

At the other end of the table Lowestoft Albion started 2011 as they ended 2010, with another heavy defeat, this time losing 7-0 to Royal Oak.

Blundeston Magpies Reserves had a high scoring 6-3 win against their Oxford counterparts whilst there was a rare win for Southwold Town Reserves as they scored 3 without reply against Carlton Rangers.

The final league game played was the derby between Westhall and Harleston Town Reserves which ended all square 3-3.

Moving onto the Suffolk Primary Cup where we had four teams searching for a quarter final place. Unfortunately the tie between Mutford & Wrentham and East Bergholt A was postponed.

Of the three ties to survive we have two teams progress as DK Consultants defeated Claydon 4-2 and Waveney Gunners returned from Felixstowe Harpers 1-2.
