League Report 27th September:

This week saw the second and third division teams involved in the Primary cup.

In the Norfolk competition last season beaten finalists Ellingham fought through 2-1 against MK United Res. from Yarmouth. Norton Athletic Res. who were beaten semi finalists last season started with a comfortable 5-0 success over Costessey Crown Res. from the business houses league. Hopton White Harts came back from South Creake with a good 5-2 win and Gt Yarmouth Town Hall eased through 8-2 against Splitz United.

The league did lose Earsham who went down 2-0 at Swanton Morley.

In the Suffolk version local teams are paired together in the early rounds so we are guaranteed some progress. White Horse Seltic Res. saw off Magpies Res. 5-1, Marquis of Lorne defeated Factory Arms by the same score. Crusaders edged through by the odd goal of 5 at Spexhall Res. whilst at Walmer Road there was a high scoring contest between Kirkley & Pakefield b and LIFC with LIFC team winning 8-5 AET.

Onto the league and in the first division Blundeston Magpies made it 3 wins from 4 as their ten men scored the only goal against Caxton Res. Kirkley & Pakefield A still head the table despite going down 3-2 to FC Hearts.

Hearts of Oak won a tight game 3-2 against Waveney Res. and Pot Black battled out a goal less encounter at Barsham. Sole Bay United Res. picked up their first points as they cruised to a 6-0 win over Oxford Arms who look to be in for a long season.

AFC Bayfields have withdrawn from the league after just one game which will be deleted from the records.

There were just two league matches in the second division as Ole Frank won 6-1 at Waveney Gunners to head the table with Corton A moving into second place following their 1-0 win at Tudor FC.

The third division also had just two games. Harleston Town Res. are up to second after beating Lake Lothing 3-1 and Waveney A netted their first win 3-0 at Seltic Res.

AFC Bayfields Pull Out

The league has lost its first team of the season after only one match. AFC Bayfields who were also struggling for players have decided to call it a day following last weeks 10-0 defeat by Caxton Res for which this result will now not stand.

It seams that every season there is at least one team to drop out of the top flight seemingly because thay are not quite good enough. Its a shame for AFC Bayfields who this summer changed their name from Carlton Rangers who had in recent years enjoyed success as they went through the league but unfortunatley found the 1st division too strong.

This also leave Norton Athletic without a match tomorrow (27th).

Pakefield Re-United Match Report 20th Sept.

“Pakefield Reunited travelled to the quiet backwaters of the Waveney Valley to face Ellingham. The recent weather had obviously been good for those involved in silage production as the pitch resembled the waving grasslands of the Pampas. Grave concerns were felt for the safety of Harvey “The Rabbit” and “Duracell” Godbold getting lost after falling into the line markings. However, the glorious sunshine and lack of breeze meant worries over dehydration should also have been raised.

Changes to the team saw the return of “Punty” Punt and “Deckhand” Scriggins and the changing room banter centred on whether the shot-to-miss ratio could be as high as the previous week. Early signs were that the answer would be no; shots only come when a team can keep the ball! Passes along the ground stopped short while those taking a more aerial route were going astray. Pakefield fell behind to a poorly defended cross leading to a well taken headed goal. This lead to Pakefield finally engaging with the task in hand and good approach work led to a well taken goal from “Deckhand” Scriggins. This was closely followed by the first of two rare events. Firstly a goal ruled out for offside after a fifteen minute conference call with the FA on what construes passive and active involvement. Secondly “Bambi” Michalski missing a penalty or rather by allowing the goalkeeper to fall onto a shot so weak that comments about “long grass” featured in the post-match discussions. “Bambi” Michalski however continued to terrorise the back four of Ellingham and along with driving runs from “Tracey” Chapman, Harvey “The Rabbit” and “Tin Head” Whale. It all lead to a purple patch and two further goals, one more for “Deckhand” Scriggins which followed on from a well taken goal for “Bambi” Michalski.

The half-time talk was full of positive comments but one phrase stood out “the next goal was very important”. Pakefield seemed to have gone to sleep and couldn’t get started during the first twenty minutes of the second half. Ellingham, using “Route One” started to mount a serious challenge which led to the possible “champagne moment” in the match. “Leaping like a salmon” and “amazing reflexes and agility” are not normally used to describe “Boris” Becker but all the flash photographers were in action as a cross and powerful header saw him tip over the goal bound ball. This allowed Pakefield to re-establish some control on the game. During the next ten minutes it saw “Bambi” Michalski turning players inside out better than a washer woman doing the pillow cases before finally scoring that important next goal with a strong turn and curling shot. The last ten minutes saw the “empty” buzzer sound on Pakefield’s energy levels and another re-run of “Pinball Wizard” between “Her Suit” Craft, “Boris” Becker and “Punty”Punt almost led to Ellingham’s second goal. This continued with a series of corners, crosses and shots slowly lengthening the list of body parts used by “Punty” Punt to block the ball, and a comedy “pass back” and free kick. “PG” Graham did shepherd a stunning drive by Ellingham into the bottom corner for their second goal but had the final laugh as Pakefield notched up their first league win. Thanks to everybody for turning out and see you all next week for the “Red Herring” match?

TEAM: Becker, Craft, Punt, Graham, Godbold, Whale (Dale), Harvey, Taylor (Coote), Chapman, Scriggins, Michalski

League Report 20th September.

It’s all change at the top of the first division following this weeks results as early pacesetters Wrentham had the points stolen by Magpies as Blundeston recorded a terrific 3-1 victory. Wrentham are now headed by Kirkley & Pakefield A who won 2-0 at bottom side Oxford Arms.

Pot Black followed up last weeks fine point with 3 more this week as they scored a 3-1 success over a Spexhall side who remain pointless.
Waveney Res. picked up their first points as they eased to a 5-0 win over Sole Bay Res. whilst Beccles Caxton were the days biggest winners as they strolled to a 10-0 success over AFC Bayfields.

Barsham who have been unlucky in losing both of their opening games to last minute strikes were left inactive due to the surprise call off of champions Hearts of Oak who could not raise a side.

Norton Athletic were in Norfolk Junior Cup action where they faced a Norton Walsham Town Res. side who had not lost a league game for 42 matches however Norton excelled and went through 5-1.

The second division already looks like it will be intriguing as every team has already lost. Pakefield Re-United gained their first 3 point haul with a fine 4-2 win at Ellingham.
The third division saw a shock result as Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who have been scoring for fun were held to a 1-1 draw by Waveney A.

Lake Lothing are hot on their heels in 4th after their fine 4-2 win at new boys Kirkley & Pakefield B whilst Earsham gained a 4-0 win in game against Westhall. Pakefield Re-United match report.

Pakefield enjoyed the luxury surroundings of Normanston Park in their first “home game” and were also at ease with the conclusion of the “North West” Derby which featured in the pre-match preparations as the departure of Sutcliffe to Corton meant Liverpool were much favored. It was good to see the attacking flair shown in this match transferred to the team throughout the game with Corton “A”. Changes had been made and the addition of Godbold at left back was to be a key element in this intent to entertain. Pakefield have never before had the luxury of “Duracell” Godbold shocking Chapman into his best game of the last few seasons and their link up with “Bambi” Michalski was a joy to watch, mostly! While the final score showed the game to be even it was the tale of the woodwork count that perhaps best showed the different approaches of the two teams; Pakefield were ahead 5 – 1 with Michalski (2), Craft, “Tin Head” Whale and “Andy” Taylor all showing exceptional skill in this difficult challenge. This allowed the tension in the game to build up as Corton were able to take the lead twice.

Corton’s first goal owed much to “Boris” Becker’s, “PG” Grahams and Banks’ familiarity with “Pin Ball Wizard” in front of goal; “tilt” was very much in evidence. Pakefield equalized late into the first half through a well taken goal by Craft who finally controlled and kicked a ball with something approaching his usual aplomb. Leading up to this “Andy” Taylor continued to entertain with three spectacular attempts to supplant “Boris” Becker at the top of Pakefield’s “Miss of the Century” list. This was in its own way to become the main focus for Pakefield as “Tin Head” Whale joined in the festivities with a rasping shot, or three, that went wide of the mark… along with Michalski, Chapman, Banks, Craft et al. This continued into the second half where more fine approach work involving Harvey “The Rabbit” saw Pakefield create a plethora of chances, and further misses. Corton, relying on a more forceful approach, which saw a re-run of the Olympic Judo officiating debacle involving “Duracell” Godbold not losing to a blatant ippon, again showed the value of luck with a second goal against the run of play. This was late into the second half and following on from all the attempts on goal created a feeling amongst Pakefield that this wasn’t going to be their day. However, with nearly the last kick of the game “Bambi” Michalski scored with the hardest of his many chances with a well placed curling shot wide of the Corton keeper (who had also been involved in several fine saves throughout the game to deny Pakefield).

After the game it was concluded in a de-brief at the “Dutchmans” that this final combined pre-season match and league game had worked out the rustiness of the summer break. Pakefield are now looking forward to their first officially club sanctioned league encounter next week against Ellingham at the Rectory. Since this venue warrants a dignified dress code “Dog Collars” will be compulsory item of attire and checked before the game. Latecomers technically challenged and the are also advised to come prepared… if you don't check ignorance is no excuse!

League Report 13th September:

The early leaders in the first division are Wrentham who went nap for the second week running, this time beating Caxton Res 5-1 with makeshift striker Ricci Reade helping himself to two goals, the others coming from Steve Shipley, Stuart Holland & John McGraine.

Norton Athletic are second after easing to a 4-0 success over Blundeston Magpies where Ryan Hills, Paul Harriman, Kevin Briers and Chris Smith were on target whilst Kirkley & Pakefield are the other team on maximum points as they condemned Barsham to their second 3-2 defeat.

Luke Faliaze is on fire for FC Hearts as his second brace helped them to a high scoring 6-4 victory over Waveney Res. for whom Ray Winney hit a trick. Champions Hearts of Oak slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Pot Black who are captained by ex-player Darren Boyd. Hearts suffered an early red card but still took the lead through an own goal. Pot Black rallied and netted a deserved equalising goal through Adam Bird. The game at Spexhall was off.

Hopton White Hart are the early pace setters in the second division as they rammed in 8 goals against a severely depleted Norton Res side who were missing 6 of their regular players. That said Norton were level at 2-2 well into the second half (Simon Tarver & Ant Elliot) before a dramatic collapse.

Hot on their heels are Crusaders who had a smashing 7-1 win at Tudor FC. Corton A are sitting in third after netting a point in their 2-2 draw at Pakefield Re-United. The table then shows 7 teams all sitting on 1 win, 1 loss. Bungay Town A netted their first win 3-1 over Waveney Gunners whilst Ellingham went 3 goals better in defeating O Broad & Notley’s Res. 6-1. LIFC earned the points with a narrow 2-1 win at Oxford Arms Res, and Ole Frank won by the same scoreline at White Horse Seltic.

The third division is headed by the strong looking Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who smashed in 13 goals against Blundeston Magpies Res winning 13-1. Suffolk Punch move into second place after their fine 2-0 victory at Waveney A.
Marquis of Lorne and Factory Arms both picked up their first wins, Marquis scoring the only goal in beating Corton White Horse Seltic and Factory racking up an impressive 4-0 success against Earsham. The final match saw Harleston Town Res. beat Westhall 5-1.

Pakefield Re-United report 6th Sept.

Pakefield met at Kessingland having decided that this year it seems best to try and combine as many tasks as possible into the same event. Therefore, pre-season was combined with meeting new squad members and the first league game against old rivals Crusaders. Allied to this their timing continues to have its own comedy value as the warm up coincided with the referee brining the teams together to start the match; two-into-one again. It was therefore no surprise that the first fifteen minutes saw Pakefield have three opportunities to continue pre-match debates about how to fit new faces into their best positions. It was kind of Crusaders to help out in this important task with three different scoring opportunities. With the elements and geography also helping Pakefield focus on this effort to finally have a pre-season training session it was pleasing to see a well taken first goal by “Tin Head” Whale towards the end of the half. This followed on from "Boris" Becker being given his first opportunity to actually move outside of his six yard box; progress was being made!

Half time saw further examples of Pakefield’s emerging ability to multitask as they got in touch with their feminine side. Half of the team missed the cosy half-time chat as they recovered their balls from the brambles surrounding the pitch. This certainly helped as Pakefield, although conceding a well taken fourth goal, dominated the second half. "Deckhand" Declan made several good breaks, Harlow “New Town” showed growing confidence playing down the left combining well with "Deckhand" Declan and “Tin Head” Whale, and “Punty” Punt lived up to his name with many well timed and effective tackles and clearances. Allied to "Dippy" Neal’s growing domination in occupying a high central midfield role and a much better overall performance it was pleasing to see the smiles returning to the Pakefield players’ faces. Further goals by "Deckhand" Declan and “Tin Head” Whale and a first example of "Boris" Becker dominating his area all helped in this process. It was also nice to hear the referee describe himself as feeling a “bit ropey”. Another moment when humour was more important that the reason for the discussion.

In the pre-match debrief held at the “Dutchmans” it was this facet that was the main focus. A consensus was reached that the fun and social side could well be the main focus for this year’s campaign. It seems that “shorts and white socks” could well be the dress code for the next game… you have been warned!!! Thanks to everyone who attended and played and while changes will be made to the team for next week at least we are “on the road again”!

League Report 6th September 2008

With the summer over and the European championships and the Olympic games behind us the new season of the Lowestoft & District began. Actually there was one game last week as new side Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who have joined from the Yarmouth league opened up their campaign with a narrow 3-2 win over Corton White Horse Seltic Res.

The first full Saturday saw 3 teams strike 11 goals as Hearts of Oak, Norton Res and Town Hall ran riot.

The defending first division champions after a summer of player movements went goal crazy at Oxford Arms sinking them 11-1 with new signing Ant Fields helping himself to a double hat-trick. Johnny Williams also got a trick with Adam Taylor and an OG completing the 11. Norton Athletic faced a very tricky looking Barsham side and it was the division new boys that were winning 2-0 at the break. Norton however kept going and scored 3 goals in the second half (Paul Harriman 2 and Ryan Hills) to net the points. There was also a win for last years third placed team Wrentham who triumphed 5-2 at FC Hearts with 5 different scorers.

Beccles Caxton Res. started their life in the top flight with an impressive 3-1 win over Spexhall as did Blundeston Magpies who beat Sole Bay United Res. 5-1. The other fixture saw Kirkley & Pakefield A win by the odd goal of 5 against Waveney Res.

The second division saw Norton Athletic Res. complete a miserable day for Oxford Arms as they cruised to an 11-2 win (Simon Tarver 3, Rory Spinks 2, Paul Martin 2, Chris Burton, Leon Ringer, Sean Higgingbotham & OG). The much fancied Ole Frank side were beaten 5-1 at home by Hopton White Hart. Promoted Bungay Town A went down 4-6 against Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res, whilst Corton A and Crusaders both recorded 4-3 wins over Ellingham & Pakefield Re-United respectively. Tudor FC (formerly Royal Standard) started with a fine 3-0 win over LIFC whilst White Horse Seltic went one better in beating Waveney Gunners 4-0.

The third division saw Town Hall make it two from two with a crushing 11-0 rout at Spexhall Res. Of the other new sides the youngsters of Kirkley & Pakefield B won 2-0 at Marquis of Lorne. Suffolk Punch beat Harleston Town Res 3-2.

Earsham started with a narrow 2-1 win over Waveney A and Lake Lothing (formerly Lacon Arms) started with a fine 4-0 win at Blundeston Magpies Res. Finally Westhall beat Factory Arms 5-1 to get of to a good start.
