Goals worth the wait

IT was the case of the late, late, late show in the popular three-division Lowestoft league at the weekend.

A number of games across the leagues were decided in the dying minutes with teams vying for points snatching draws and victories from the clutches of defeat during a weekend of late goals.

With division one leaders Norton inactive, second-placed Waveney Reserves failed to take advantage as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Dip Farm by fourth-placed Oxford Arms. In a topsy-turvy encounter, Arms scored in the last minute to snatch a draw and while they deserved point, Waveney did have a penalty saved. Norton now head the table by a point from Waveney, with the village side boasting a game in hand.

Barsham moved up into third after a 1-0 away win at 11th placed Corton White Horse Seltic, while fifth placed Spexhall were reliant on a last minute equaliser as they were held 3-3 by tenth placed Blundeston Magpies.

In division two, leaders AFC Star extended their lead at the top with a 6-0 demolition of fifth placed Ellingham. Third placed Suffolk Punch were held to a 3-3 home draw by eight placed Crusaders, while fourth placed Great Yarmouth Town Hall suffered a cup hangover as they slipped to a 4-1 away defeat at sixth placed Hopton.

Seventh placed Corton A also lost 2-1 away at bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves, while Tudor moved up into ninth with a good 2-1 home win over in-form tenth-placed Lowestoft International. Norton Athletic Reserves moved into 11th after a 4-0 home win over 12th placed Sole Bay United Reserves, with two goals from Dan Robinson and others from Steve Rivett and Steve Nicol.

Town Hall side move into final

PRIDE of place this week goes to second division side Gt Yarmouth Town Hall, who reached the final of the Norfolk Primary Cup on Saturday following their 3-1 win against Thetford Rovers Reserves.

The league sent out their congratulations to the side this week for their success, and this will be the second time in three seasons that the league will have had a representative after Ellingham reached the final two years ago.

The final will be played on Friday, April 9 at Dereham's Aldiss Park against Old Hunstanton.

In division one leaders Norton Athletic had to battle back from 2-1 down at the break to eventually beat fifth placed Spexhall 4-2, with scorers Danny Hoadley (penalty), two from Andy Green and player manager Steve Hak.

Second placed Waveney Reserves bounced back from defeat last week to beat eighth placed Kirkley & Pakefield A 5-1, after they were 1-0 down at the interval.

Third placed Barsham were given the points as 11th placed Pot Black failed to raise a side for the scheduled clash. Fourth placed Oxford Arms game at first from bottom Mutford & Wrentham was postponed.

Sixth placed Hearts of Oak drew 2-2 at Normanston Park with seventh placed Ole Frank, while ninth placed Corton White Horse Seltic beat tenth placed Blundeston Magpies 3-1.

In the battle of the top two in the second division, league leaders AFC Star drew 0-0 with second placed Pakefield Re-United.

Suffolk Punch stay third after a last-gasp 4-3 away win at 12th placed Norton Athletic Reserves. The home side had looked to salvage a late draw as they made it 3-3 in the 92nd minute but then conceded an even later winner. Norton scorers were Gary Crisp, Dan Robinson and Sam Brackenbury.

Fifth placed Ellingham drew 3-3 away at tenth placed Sole Bay United Reserves, sixth placed Corton A had a good 4-1 win over seventh-placed Hopton.

Eighth placed Crusaders lost 1-3 at home to an improving Lowestoft International, who are now ninth, while 11th placed Tudor drew 1-1 with bottom of the table Harleston Town Reserves.

In Division three, just three games were placed as the John Moore Shield quarter finals took centre stage. Game of the division was at Dip Farm, where seventh placed Norman Warrior led 5-2 against Spexhall Reserves, but the village side dramatically hit back to win 6-5 and move into fourth place.

Fifth placed Kirkley & Pakefield B slipped to a 1-4 home reversal against tenth placed Westhall, while bottom of the table Carlton Rangers had a fine 5-2 home win over Blundeston Magpies Reserves.

In the John Moore Shield quarter finals, league leaders Waveney Gunners bounced back from last week's league defeat to move into the semi finals with a 6-1 victory over Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves.

They will be joined by second placed Waveney A, who beat Mutford & Wrentham Reserves by the same 6-1 scoreline. Third placed Earsham join them in the last four after a 3-1 away win at Factory Arms, while Ron Bonnor's Marquis of Lorne make up the quartet after a fine 4-1 home win over Oxford Arms Reserves.

Town Hall Reach Primary Final

The league would like to send its congratulations to Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who reached the final of the Norfolk Primary Cup on Saturday following their 3-1 win againt Thetford Rovers Reserves. This will be the second time in 3 season we have had a league representative in the final and hopefully Town Hall will go one better than Ellingham two years ago.

The final will be played on Friday 9th April at Dereham's Aldiss Park against Old Hunstanton.

Here are Town Hall's club notes on the match:

Town Hall reached their first county cup final in 39 years with a fullydeserved 3-1 victory over a sporting Thetford Rovers Reserve side at GreenLane.Manager Jonno sprung the first surprise of the day by opting to keeptop scorer Matty Anderson in reserve on the bench.

Hall then proceeded toget off to the worst possible start conceding in the first 40seconds.However this proved to be as good as it got for the opposition asHall bossed the game for the remaining 89 minutes.

The only blot being Halls inability to convert numerous chance that their possession andapproach play deserved.Half time came still one goal adrift, with themessage from the management "dont panic".

Early in the second half withBeckett skying a clear cut opening, and midfield dynamo Keith Vincentbeing withdrawn through injury, and who up to that point was probablyHalls best player, many may have thought it was going to be one of thosedays. However with top scorer Anderson now on the pitch and a change offormation Hall raised their game further.

On 55 minutes Rob Ripkey held offtwo Thetford defenders to fire home Halls much overdue equaliser, only onewinner now.Ten minutes later good work down the right from Shane Kingdonsaw him deliver a pinpoint cross for Matty Anderson to pick his spot witha header for his 27th goal of the season.

With fresh legs introduced Hall stayed dominant. The icing on the cake came 5 minutes from time withAnderson creating panic in the Thetford defence turning provider for Ripkey to tap home from close range.Final score 3-1.Superb effort anddetermination from all 14 players, well done everyone.

Final is due to beplayed on Friday April 9 at Dereham v Old Hunstanton. However with Hall noteven at the half way stage with their league games, thoughts must turn to the six league games before then, starting tomorrow v Hopton (AWAY).Jonnowill be in touch regarding arrangements.
