Respect from Westhall.

Hi, I would like to pass on my absolute thanks to Westhall FC. Following a recent match vs Waveney 'A' at the Community Sports Centre the level of respect shown by Westhall FC was above and beyond anything we have experienced since the centre opened in 2004. The team manager took on board every procedure asked of him by the reception staff and responded with the finest detail to every request. The changing rooms were left in fantastic condition and all players stuck to the centre rules without once questioning or showing disregard to any policies. Again, thanks to Westhall FC and the team manager for their excellent conduct and respect shown to the centre. If only other teams could follow this excellent example.

Many Thanks Kevin Oldman Deputy Operations Manager

Player Registrations

Following the management committee meeting last night 3 more clubs have been deducted 3 points for playing inelligible players taking the total to 8 so far this season and the league would like to issue the following statement to all clubs:

As a league we have a standard rule that playing an inelligible is punished with a 3 point deduction for the club and a 3 month ban and £10 fine for the player.

So far this season 8 clubs have been affected.

Whilst the league currently allows the signing of players on the day it is the clubs responsibilty to check with either Mike Johnson or Brian Gower if the player in question has already registered for another club in the league.

It appears that during a time of player shortage some clubs are just taking the players word that he has not signed for another club within the league.

If you need to sign a player on the day please try and check with Mike Johnson 01502 565518 or Brian Gower 01986 892916 before playing them to see if a fellow league clubs holds that players registration.

If you are unable to contact the above then please try and refrain from playing the player until you have checked, if you must play the player then please beware of the punishment if it does turn out they have signed for a fellow club.

Playing a player that has not completed a registration also come under the above punishment so once again if you are not sure then please check with the league.

League Report 25th October.

The Notley’s first division is once more being dominated by champions Hearts of Oak as they ground out a 2-1 win at Sole Bay Res, despite missing a few players.
They remain 1 point ahead of Blundeston Magpies who have took the division by storm so far winning 5 of their 7 games which included a 1-0 success over Barsham who seem to be having no luck this season.

Challengers for the title Wrentham dropped two valuable points as they were held by bottom side Spexhall, for whom it’s surely a matter of time before they start to climb the table.

Pot Black recorded an impressive 5-1 win over a depleted Norton Athletic side whilst FC Hearts jump to third place following their 6-1 success at Oxford Arms.
Just the one match in the second division as Bungay Town A recorded a fine 5-2 win at Waveney Gunners.

There were 3 match played in the third division where Earsham ran out 6-1 winners over basement boys Blundeston Magpies Res.
Harleston Town Res. are second following their 4-0 win against Factory Arms whilst Kirkley & Pakefield B scored a 3-1 win at Spexhall Res.

Most of the second and third division sides were involved in the Primary Cups.

In the Suffolk version Ole Frank booked a home tie with Pakefield Re-United after their 3-0 win against LIFC and Pakefield’s 1-0 triumph against Halesworth Town Res.
Tudor FC recorded a fine 4-1 win at Corton A and will now take on St Clements Hospital in round 3. The closest game was at Crusaders where they were edged out 4-3 by Caxton Res. who now entertains Coplestonians in the third round.
Corton White Horse Seltic thumped Westhall 9-1 to book a trip to Tacket Street Boys Brigade Old Boys whilst Waveney A will face Needham Market Vets after disposing of Marquis of Lorne 7-1.

Suffolk Punch hit 6 with no reply against Wenhaston and will now face Henly Athletic Res. whilst Lake Lothing booked a tie with Cockfield United Res. after dumping out Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res 4-1.

In the Norfolk version two sides made it through and two went out. Last year’s beaten finalists Ellingham wont repeat their fate as they lost 4-2 to Hoveton Wherryman Res. Hopton White Hart lost 2-1 against Swanton Morley.

Gt Yarmouth Town Hall eased through 3-0 against Bawdeswell and Norton Athletic Res. also progressed after a 2-1 win against Corpusty & Saxthorpe Res. The draw is on Friday night for these two teams.

Tomorrow sees the KO Cup 1st round and with it some interesting and intriguing ties.
The tie of the round has to be at Dip Farm where FC Hearts take on former club mates and holders Hearts of Oak.

Last year’s runner’s up Norton will be looking for revenge against Kirkley A who beat them just a month ago whilst Waveney Res. and Wrentham also looks a tasty tie.

League Report 18th October.

This week saw many of the league’s top flight sides battle it out against each other in the Suffolk Junior Cup 2nd round which is regionalised, meaning the league were guaranteed some sides through. The first of these being Pot Black who were granted a walkover due to AFC Bayfields demise earlier in the season. They will now travel to Cockfield in round 3.

Barsham booked their place by scoring the only goal in their match with Oxford Arms and will now play host to Wickham Market.
Spexhall who have started the season without a win took on league leaders Hearts of Oak and it was the home side that scored the only goal to book a home encounter with Haughley United.

FC Hearts found the Anglian Combination division two leaders Beccles Caxton too strong as they crashed to an 8-0 reverse whilst Blundeston Magpies faired little better as they were hit by a 7-1 defeat to SIL side Wenhaston United.

The youngsters of Kirkley A progressed after beating former league side Waveney 5-2 and they will travel to Wenhaston United in the 3rd Round. Waveney Gunners bowed out after going down 4-2 to Halesworth Town whilst the result of the day occurred at Wrentham as they beat Combination side Oulton Broad & Notley’s 3-0.
In the Norfolk Junior Cup a depleted Norton side slumped to a 4-2 defeat to Blofield United Res.

Onto league action and previously unbeaten Pot Black crashed to a heavy 4-0 defeat to Waveney Res, whose top scorer Ray Winney took his tally to 9 for the season with a brace.

Sole Bay United Res. gained their second win as they beat Caxton Res. 3-1.

The game of the day in the second divison for many would have been the Corton derby as Corton A who won 19-0 last week entertained White Horse Seltic. The outcome was a 10-0 win for the pub based side as they continue to climb the table. Leaders Ole Frank were also involved in a high scoring game as they won 5-3 at Ellingham.
Pakefield Re-United are into second place following a fine 3-1 win over Bungay Town A.

Oulton Broad & Notley’s Reserves are having a torrid time at present and this week went down 2-0 to LIFC whilst a Jon Green strike gave Norton Res. all 3 points at Tudor FC.

The third division saw no let up at the top as Town Hall crushed Factory Arms 12-1 which included strikes from Darren Beckett to take his season tally to 18.

Suffolk Punch remain the only side in the league with a perfect record as they made it 5 straight wins with a hard fought 2-1 success over White Horse Seltic Res.
The division is being dominated by the new sides as Harleston Town Res move into third following their 2-1 win at Kirkley & Pakefield B.

The remaining games ended all square as Earsham and Spexhall Reserves drew 2-2 and Blundeston magpies Res. collected their first point in holding Lacon Arms to a high scoring 4-4 draw.

Finally a reminder to all clubs that all details including players full names should be present on result cards. Failure to do so will result in fines being imposed.

Town Hall Report.

For the second week running Hall faced a major reshuffle, the main absentee
being keeper Lee Marshall who succumbed to a gastric illness. What a
difference a week makes, last weeks hat trick hero Rob Leggett donned the
gloves as Hall took the field at a warm but very long grassed
Westhall.Hall put in what can only be described as a Jekyll and Hyde first
half performance, the manager was clearly upset with the passing and ball
retention, which at times was nothing short of woefull , despite this Hall
did go into the break leading 3-0,scoring three good goals. The first came
after a good move and cross from Darren Beckett on the right inviting
Jamie Gallant to bury his routine bullet header. The second showed that
Hall have route 1 in their armoury also, with Gallant turning provider in
flicking on to return the favour for strike partner Darren Beckett to use
his pace and finish well. The third came after some slick movement & a
delightfull threaded pass from Brent harvey allowing the returning Cheesy
(Rob Ripkey)to calmly pick his spot and stroke the ball home first time.HT
3-0. The manager made two changes at the break and maybe Hall were
adjusting to this but maybe the credit should go to Westhall who upped
their game and gave Hall problems after the break, pulling two back to set
the game on a knife edge. Hall then introduced midfield lynchpin Adam
Yaxley after a four week lay off from injury, which settled the side
enabling Hall to get back into their stride & play football.Putting their
blip behind them, Hall turned the screw to make the points safe with a 25
yard bending drive from Gavin Tweed after good approach play for the
fourth.Halls fifth came from a typical Beckett finish, before another good
move which after another deft harvey touch found Cheesy in the inside
right channel, without hesiataion he caught the volley sweetly, Van Basten
like(perhaps not quite as acuter angle)to put the gloss on the 3 points
and seal a 6-2 victory. Credit must go to Westhall for their part in a
fine game, giving Hall their sternest test so far.Their heads never dropped
and were a credit to their manager and club.Hall showed how necessary it
has been in the past few weeks to call on the whole squad, and show the
character required in coming through that 15 minute blip.Hall MOM Sam
Betts who was huge & inspired all around him.

Bad News for Barsham.

Barsham currently sitting one from bottom of division 1, having only taken two points from 5 games, have suffered two more major setbacks. Last week, Beccles Town captured the signing of 16 year old goal machine Alex Holmes, which has made an immediate impact scoring 2 in 2 games for the reserves. The second set back is, his older brother Nick, has suffered a nasty looking ankle injury suffered against Spexhall at the weekend, and may be out for a couple of weeks. However, some good news for the Barsham boys is top goal scorer from last season Nick Wilson should return to action next week, following a 6 week lay off.

Not all doom and gloom for Barsham just yet.

Barsham host Oxford Arms this weekend in the cup, followed by a tricky looking encounter against Blundeston the week after.

Sunday 12 October 2008

League Report 11th October.

The first division of the league is turning into an open encounter and this week sees champions Hearts of Oak as the new leaders as they have quietly gone about their business in racking up big wins. This week they defeated Caxton Res. 8-2.
Previous leaders Kirkley & Pakefield A were beaten for the second time this season by FC Hearts who won 3-1.

Blundeston Magpies who had been racking up some impressive victories were this week disappointing as they went down 2-0 to Oxford Arms who had lost all their games so far. I am also led to believe a Magpies players suffered a broken leg and the league would like to wish him all the best.

The win for Oxford takes them out of the bottom two who are now Barsham and Spexhall who shared the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw, Spexhall’s first point of the season.

There was another 3-3 draw in the match at Pot Black between them and Wrentham. Pot Black are looking a hard to beat side this season but have already drawn three times.

The final match in the division saw Norton run out 4-0 winners against Waveney Res.
Ryan Hills converting 2 first half spot kicks and Chris Smith added a second half brace as Norton bounced back from their defeat the previous week.

The second division is once more headed by Hopton White Hart who defeated Crusaders 2-1 and as a result sees them slip to 6th place. Leapfrogging them are Corton A who recorded a 19 (nineteen) 1 thrashing at Oxford Arms Res.

Ole Frank are second after winning 6-2 at Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res. and Pakefield Re-United who are in goof form are now 4th following their 4-2 win over LIFC.

It was a tight game at Dip Farm as Tudor FC scored the only goal against Waveney Gunners whilst at the Malting Meadow Bungay Town A won 3-1 against Norton Res aided by two howlers from the Norton keeper.

Finally Corton White Horse Seltic collected the points with a rather comfortable 4-0 success against Ellingham.

The third division was mainly full of tight scorelines.

The biggest winners of the day were leaders Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who won by 4 goals in their 6-2 win at Westhall.

The only team with a 100% record are still Suffolk Punch as they chalked up their 4th win 2-1 against Waveney A.

Marquis of Lorne are in third following their single goal win at Factory Arms.
Kirkley & Pakefield B defeated Blundeston Magpies Res. 3-2 to climb into mid table and just above them are Spexhall Res. who beat Lake Lothing 3-0.

The final match of the day saw Corton White Horse Seltic Res. 2-0 winners at Earsham who drop to 9th.

Pakefield Re-United Notes 4th October.

The match against Tudor FC on Saturday started in a very unusual way for Pakefield Reunited in a state of disorganisation; Harvey was delayed by having to make the return trip to Ellingham from two weeks ago to pick up his boots! With “Bambi” Michalski out for the next two months after twisting his knee, “Dippy” Dale away paintballing and “Skrimshaw” Scriggins also unavailable changes had to be made to the starting line up. “Tillsy” Tills came in for a start, picking up the moldy captains armband that had been left abandoned over the summer, and “Blue” Balls finally coming in from the sidelines to start as centre half. The fact that Tudor FC were also laughing at the state of disarray in the changing rooms seemed to sum up the day’s potential for a slip up…

However, “Crafty” Craft, living up to his name, showed a remarkable turn of phrase in the pre-match talk and set out what needed to be done. Using a game plan is something that always seems to flummox Pakefield but this week it appeared to be different as it seemed everybody was actually listening. Throughout the first half a disciplined performance from everybody saw some excellent football being played. Pakefield allowed Tudor to press forward and tackled well, even if “Tillsy” Tills did start suffering from oxygen deprivation as he closed on the half way line once or twice, with strong performances from all the back four to recover the ball. They then passed out through the active midfield of “Piglet” Graham and “Magic Rabbit” Harvey (A well deserved promotion after pulling his boots out of the hat) using “New Town” Harlow and “Blubber” Whale as excellent outlets. This was all very well but it relied on “Baldy” Coote to play a strong game in the centre up front. This he did with a match winning performance; two excellent finishes from good team approach play and many other strong challenges and good distribution belied his claims of a pulled “walking stick”. Yet this two goal lead was established in the first half with a strong following wind.

Therefore, the second half was sure to provide a totally different proposition (Fill in the appropriate cliché if feeling deprived of a real match report). The hal time team talk was again an opportunity for “Crafty” Craft to eruditely sum up the commitment of the whole team. Pakefield continued to be well organised but the long ball provided Tudor FC with several good chances. The defence held up well until a misjudged challenge at worst led to the award of a penalty. “Boris” Becker’s efforts to save the penalty again led to calls to the National Geological Society to confirm that an earthquake centred on Lowestoft was felt at about 3:42pm on Saturday 4th October. That Pakefield were shocked to see the success of his efforts may have led to them being flat footed and the rebound was scuffed in! However, the continued defensive effort, and good use of the out ball meant Pakefield ended the game with another good win on the road.

The debrief at the Ducthmans was got off to a good start as “Boris” Becker forgot the bridge was closed in his drug addled state, “Crafty” Craft was kept indoors for being a naughty boy and the first social of the year was finally organised. Next week, after a game against Lowestoft International at Normanston, will see an “Evening with the Lads” kick off at 4:30pm(ish) with the England game and food at the Dutchmans. Maybe “Micky” Broxup will stay around long enough to get the full picture of what happening this year – all welcome!!

TEAM: Becker, Tills, Punt, Ball (Coote), Chapman, Whale, Harvey, Craft, Graham, Harlow, Coote.

RESULT: Won 2-1 GOALS: Coote (2)

COMEDY VALUE: Changing Rooms, Referee’s “Hurry Up” Routine, Crafty being kept indoors

Thanks to all!

League Report 05th October

The first division saw the top two win again as both Kirkley & Pakefield A and Blundeston Magpies sit on 12 points from 5 games. The youngster of Kirkley had to work hard to beat Norton Athletic 3-2. Kirkley were winning 1-0 for a long period until Norton’s Steve Moore struck twice inside the final 8 minutes to give them the lead. Kirkley hit back with two of their own in the final 4 minutes to steal the points.

Blundeston on the other hand chalked up another fine victory coming back from Spexhall with a 1-0 win. That’s three straight defeats for the village side now.

Hearts of Oak are up to third on ten points following their 10-2 win over a poor Sole Bay Res side. Wrentham bounced back with a fine 5-2 win over FC Hearts with Dale Gowing netting a brace as they leapfrog Norton into 4th place.

Waveney Res. also got a good win 3-1 over Barsham as they are now 6th. Finally Caxton Res. recorded a 3-0 victory against bottom side Oxford Arms.

Already the second division looks like it will be too close to call as every team has lost already. Crusaders now head the table following their fine 6-2 win over previous leaders Ole Frank. They are joined on 9 points by Hopton White Hart following their narrow 2-1 success at Bungay Town A.

Pakefield Re-United are up to 4th place following their 2-1 win at Tudor FC.

Norton Athletic Res. defeated their Oulton Broad counterparts 5-0 with young Rory Spinks helping himself to 4 goals.
Ellingham are hitting form and won 7-3 against Oxford Arms Res. whilst finally White Horse Seltic collected maximum points in winning 5-2 at LIFC.

The third division looks like it will be a more clear cut scenario as the top sides all won. Town Hall were 5-1 winners against Earsham, whilst Suffolk Punch maintained their perfect start with a 6-0 success at Magpies Res. Harleston Town Res. were 6-2 winners at Waveney A who have also had 3 points deducted.

It was a high scoring game at Lake Lothing where they won 6-4 against White Horse Seltic Res. whilst Spexhall Res climb to mid table with their 4-1 win at Factory Arms.

Finally Marquis of Lorne are getting into the groove and this week recorded a 5-0 win against Westhall as they new jump to 4th place.

Town Hall Notes.

Hall eased to an 8-2 victory over a sporting Splitz United from the
Central and South Norfolk league.Goals came at regular intervals, leading
the way was leading scorer Darren Beckett with four, making it twelve so
far for the season.Strike partner Jamie Gallant also weighed in with two
headers, his aerial dominance combined with Becketts pace caused Splitz
headaches all afternoon!!Gallants second bagged him 100 competitive goals
for the club,a great milestone for any player, this on his 147th
competitive appearance.Halls other goals came from the industrious Dale
Smith following up at a corner ,and a penalty from keeper Lee Marshall. The
game was well refereed by Daniel Wright.

Marquis of Lorne Notes

Marquis of Lorne 5 - 1 Factory Arms

This was the first round of the Suffolk Primary Cup, and Marquis of Lorne started bright when Ray Baker put the Marquis 1-0 up within 5 minutes after a superb through ball from Andrew Lockwood. Lockwood soon made it 2-0 with a 30 yard shot which left the keeper with no chance. However Factory pulled one back just before the end of the half after a defensive error. First half ended 2-1. The second half started jus like the first with Marquis piling on the pressure which soon paid of when Andrew Howarth tapped in from close range after a well placed cross from Karl Stacey. Marquis soon made it 4-1 when Ricky Woolger headed home from a cross from Andrew Howarth. Andrew Howarth could have had his second when Ben Saunders well placed cross found the head of Andrew Howarth only for the keeper to save it with his feet, but Ben Saunders then made it 5-1 when he headed home. Ranmores Man of the Match: Stuart Loveday.

AFC Bayfields Pull Out

The league has lost its first team of the season after only one match. AFC Bayfields who were also struggling for players have decided to call it a day following last weeks 10-0 defeat by Caxton Res for which this result will now not stand.

It seams that every season there is at least one team to drop out of the top flight seemingly because thay are not quite good enough. Its a shame for AFC Bayfields who this summer changed their name from Carlton Rangers who had in recent years enjoyed success as they went through the league but unfortunatley found the 1st division too strong.

This also leave Norton Athletic without a match tomorrow (27th).

Monday 22 September 2008

Pakefield Re-United Match Report 20th Sept.

“Pakefield Reunited travelled to the quiet backwaters of the Waveney Valley to face Ellingham. The recent weather had obviously been good for those involved in silage production as the pitch resembled the waving grasslands of the Pampas. Grave concerns were felt for the safety of Harvey “The Rabbit” and “Duracell” Godbold getting lost after falling into the line markings. However, the glorious sunshine and lack of breeze meant worries over dehydration should also have been raised.

Changes to the team saw the return of “Punty” Punt and “Deckhand” Scriggins and the changing room banter centred on whether the shot-to-miss ratio could be as high as the previous week. Early signs were that the answer would be no; shots only come when a team can keep the ball! Passes along the ground stopped short while those taking a more aerial route were going astray. Pakefield fell behind to a poorly defended cross leading to a well taken headed goal. This lead to Pakefield finally engaging with the task in hand and good approach work led to a well taken goal from “Deckhand” Scriggins. This was closely followed by the first of two rare events. Firstly a goal ruled out for offside after a fifteen minute conference call with the FA on what construes passive and active involvement. Secondly “Bambi” Michalski missing a penalty or rather by allowing the goalkeeper to fall onto a shot so weak that comments about “long grass” featured in the post-match discussions. “Bambi” Michalski however continued to terrorise the back four of Ellingham and along with driving runs from “Tracey” Chapman, Harvey “The Rabbit” and “Tin Head” Whale. It all lead to a purple patch and two further goals, one more for “Deckhand” Scriggins which followed on from a well taken goal for “Bambi” Michalski.

The half-time talk was full of positive comments but one phrase stood out “the next goal was very important”. Pakefield seemed to have gone to sleep and couldn’t get started during the first twenty minutes of the second half. Ellingham, using “Route One” started to mount a serious challenge which led to the possible “champagne moment” in the match. “Leaping like a salmon” and “amazing reflexes and agility” are not normally used to describe “Boris” Becker but all the flash photographers were in action as a cross and powerful header saw him tip over the goal bound ball. This allowed Pakefield to re-establish some control on the game. During the next ten minutes it saw “Bambi” Michalski turning players inside out better than a washer woman doing the pillow cases before finally scoring that important next goal with a strong turn and curling shot. The last ten minutes saw the “empty” buzzer sound on Pakefield’s energy levels and another re-run of “Pinball Wizard” between “Her Suit” Craft, “Boris” Becker and “Punty”Punt almost led to Ellingham’s second goal. This continued with a series of corners, crosses and shots slowly lengthening the list of body parts used by “Punty” Punt to block the ball, and a comedy “pass back” and free kick. “PG” Graham did shepherd a stunning drive by Ellingham into the bottom corner for their second goal but had the final laugh as Pakefield notched up their first league win. Thanks to everybody for turning out and see you all next week for the “Red Herring” match?

Pakefield Re-United match report.

Pakefield enjoyed the luxury surroundings of Normanston Park in their first “home game” and were also at ease with the conclusion of the “North West” Derby which featured in the pre-match preparations as the departure of Sutcliffe to Corton meant Liverpool were much favored. It was good to see the attacking flair shown in this match transferred to the team throughout the game with Corton “A”. Changes had been made and the addition of Godbold at left back was to be a key element in this intent to entertain. Pakefield have never before had the luxury of “Duracell” Godbold shocking Chapman into his best game of the last few seasons and their link up with “Bambi” Michalski was a joy to watch, mostly! While the final score showed the game to be even it was the tale of the woodwork count that perhaps best showed the different approaches of the two teams; Pakefield were ahead 5 – 1 with Michalski (2), Craft, “Tin Head” Whale and “Andy” Taylor all showing exceptional skill in this difficult challenge. This allowed the tension in the game to build up as Corton were able to take the lead twice.

Corton’s first goal owed much to “Boris” Becker’s, “PG” Grahams and Banks’ familiarity with “Pin Ball Wizard” in front of goal; “tilt” was very much in evidence. Pakefield equalized late into the first half through a well taken goal by Craft who finally controlled and kicked a ball with something approaching his usual aplomb. Leading up to this “Andy” Taylor continued to entertain with three spectacular attempts to supplant “Boris” Becker at the top of Pakefield’s “Miss of the Century” list. This was in its own way to become the main focus for Pakefield as “Tin Head” Whale joined in the festivities with a rasping shot, or three, that went wide of the mark… along with Michalski, Chapman, Banks, Craft et al. This continued into the second half where more fine approach work involving Harvey “The Rabbit” saw Pakefield create a plethora of chances, and further misses. Corton, relying on a more forceful approach, which saw a re-run of the Olympic Judo officiating debacle involving “Duracell” Godbold not losing to a blatant ippon, again showed the value of luck with a second goal against the run of play. This was late into the second half and following on from all the attempts on goal created a feeling amongst Pakefield that this wasn’t going to be their day. However, with nearly the last kick of the game “Bambi” Michalski scored with the hardest of his many chances with a well placed curling shot wide of the Corton keeper (who had also been involved in several fine saves throughout the game to deny Pakefield).

After the game it was concluded in a de-brief at the “Dutchmans” that this final combined pre-season match and league game had worked out the rustiness of the summer break. Pakefield are now looking forward to their first officially club sanctioned league encounter next week against Ellingham at the Rectory. Since this venue warrants a dignified dress code “Dog Collars” will be compulsory item of attire and checked before the game. Latecomers technically challenged and the are also advised to come prepared… if you don't check ignorance is no excuse!

League Report 13th September:

The early leaders in the first division are Wrentham who went nap for the second week running, this time beating Caxton Res 5-1 with makeshift striker Ricci Reade helping himself to two goals, the others coming from Steve Shipley, Stuart Holland & John McGraine.

Norton Athletic are second after easing to a 4-0 success over Blundeston Magpies where Ryan Hills, Paul Harriman, Kevin Briers and Chris Smith were on target whilst Kirkley & Pakefield are the other team on maximum points as they condemned Barsham to their second 3-2 defeat.

Luke Faliaze is on fire for FC Hearts as his second brace helped them to a high scoring 6-4 victory over Waveney Res. for whom Ray Winney hit a trick. Champions Hearts of Oak slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Pot Black who are captained by ex-player Darren Boyd. Hearts suffered an early red card but still took the lead through an own goal. Pot Black rallied and netted a deserved equalising goal through Adam Bird. The game at Spexhall was off.

Hopton White Hart are the early pace setters in the second division as they rammed in 8 goals against a severely depleted Norton Res side who were missing 6 of their regular players. That said Norton were level at 2-2 well into the second half (Simon Tarver & Ant Elliot) before a dramatic collapse.

Hot on their heels are Crusaders who had a smashing 7-1 win at Tudor FC. Corton A are sitting in third after netting a point in their 2-2 draw at Pakefield Re-United. The table then shows 7 teams all sitting on 1 win, 1 loss. Bungay Town A netted their first win 3-1 over Waveney Gunners whilst Ellingham went 3 goals better in defeating O Broad & Notley’s Res. 6-1. LIFC earned the points with a narrow 2-1 win at Oxford Arms Res, and Ole Frank won by the same scoreline at White Horse Seltic.

The third division is headed by the strong looking Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who smashed in 13 goals against Blundeston Magpies Res winning 13-1. Suffolk Punch move into second place after their fine 2-0 victory at Waveney A.
Marquis of Lorne and Factory Arms both picked up their first wins, Marquis scoring the only goal in beating Corton White Horse Seltic and Factory racking up an impressive 4-0 success against Earsham. The final match saw Harleston Town Res. beat Westhall 5-1.

Pakefield Re-United report 6th Sept.

Pakefield met at Kessingland having decided that this year it seems best to try and combine as many tasks as possible into the same event. Therefore, pre-season was combined with meeting new squad members and the first league game against old rivals Crusaders. Allied to this their timing continues to have its own comedy value as the warm up coincided with the referee brining the teams together to start the match; two-into-one again. It was therefore no surprise that the first fifteen minutes saw Pakefield have three opportunities to continue pre-match debates about how to fit new faces into their best positions. It was kind of Crusaders to help out in this important task with three different scoring opportunities. With the elements and geography also helping Pakefield focus on this effort to finally have a pre-season training session it was pleasing to see a well taken first goal by “Tin Head” Whale towards the end of the half. This followed on from "Boris" Becker being given his first opportunity to actually move outside of his six yard box; progress was being made!

Half time saw further examples of Pakefield’s emerging ability to multitask as they got in touch with their feminine side. Half of the team missed the cosy half-time chat as they recovered their balls from the brambles surrounding the pitch. This certainly helped as Pakefield, although conceding a well taken fourth goal, dominated the second half. "Deckhand" Declan made several good breaks, Harlow “New Town” showed growing confidence playing down the left combining well with "Deckhand" Declan and “Tin Head” Whale, and “Punty” Punt lived up to his name with many well timed and effective tackles and clearances. Allied to "Dippy" Neal’s growing domination in occupying a high central midfield role and a much better overall performance it was pleasing to see the smiles returning to the Pakefield players’ faces. Further goals by "Deckhand" Declan and “Tin Head” Whale and a first example of "Boris" Becker dominating his area all helped in this process. It was also nice to hear the referee describe himself as feeling a “bit ropey”. Another moment when humour was more important that the reason for the discussion.

In the pre-match debrief held at the “Dutchmans” it was this facet that was the main focus. A consensus was reached that the fun and social side could well be the main focus for this year’s campaign. It seems that “shorts and white socks” could well be the dress code for the next game… you have been warned!!! Thanks to everyone who attended and played and while changes will be made to the team for next week at least we are “on the road again”!

League Report 6th September 2008

With the summer over and the European championships and the Olympic games behind us the new season of the Lowestoft & District began. Actually there was one game last week as new side Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who have joined from the Yarmouth league opened up their campaign with a narrow 3-2 win over Corton White Horse Seltic Res.

The first full Saturday saw 3 teams strike 11 goals as Hearts of Oak, Norton Res and Town Hall ran riot.

The defending first division champions after a summer of player movements went goal crazy at Oxford Arms sinking them 11-1 with new signing Ant Fields helping himself to a double hat-trick. Johnny Williams also got a trick with Adam Taylor and an OG completing the 11. Norton Athletic faced a very tricky looking Barsham side and it was the division new boys that were winning 2-0 at the break. Norton however kept going and scored 3 goals in the second half (Paul Harriman 2 and Ryan Hills) to net the points. There was also a win for last years third placed team Wrentham who triumphed 5-2 at FC Hearts with 5 different scorers.

Beccles Caxton Res. started their life in the top flight with an impressive 3-1 win over Spexhall as did Blundeston Magpies who beat Sole Bay United Res. 5-1. The other fixture saw Kirkley & Pakefield A win by the odd goal of 5 against Waveney Res.

The second division saw Norton Athletic Res. complete a miserable day for Oxford Arms as they cruised to an 11-2 win (Simon Tarver 3, Rory Spinks 2, Paul Martin 2, Chris Burton, Leon Ringer, Sean Higgingbotham & OG). The much fancied Ole Frank side were beaten 5-1 at home by Hopton White Hart. Promoted Bungay Town A went down 4-6 against Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res, whilst Corton A and Crusaders both recorded 4-3 wins over Ellingham & Pakefield Re-United respectively. Tudor FC (formerly Royal Standard) started with a fine 3-0 win over LIFC whilst White Horse Seltic went one better in beating Waveney Gunners 4-0.

The third division saw Town Hall make it two from two with a crushing 11-0 rout at Spexhall Res. Of the other new sides the youngsters of Kirkley & Pakefield B won 2-0 at Marquis of Lorne. Suffolk Punch beat Harleston Town Res 3-2.

Earsham started with a narrow 2-1 win over Waveney A and Lake Lothing (formerly Lacon Arms) started with a fine 4-0 win at Blundeston Magpies Res. Finally Westhall beat Factory Arms 5-1 to get of to a good start.

Barsham Bounce Back.

Barsham travelled to lower league side Earsham for their fourth friendly of the season. After a very heavy defeat to Caxton Reserves the week before, Barsham needed to get their confidence back and go back to basics. This was exactly what they did, with some neat one touch Football and some great finishing from Josh Woolnough and Nick Wilson. Jack scored Barshams first with an excellent header, Josh added a brilliant hat trick and Nick scoring the remaining two. Barsham know travel to Spexhall for their last friendly, before the season gets underway.

Cup Draws.

The Knockout Cup threw up some interesting first round ties with three that stand out in particular.

FC Hearts v Hearts of Oak was the first game out and this is probably the most intriguing tie for the sides that were part of the same club last year. These two met a couple of years back which Hearts of Oak narrowly won 5-4 and the tie will be spiced up further with some players crossing the divide to play for the other team.

Last years beaten finalists Norton Athletic have been handed a very tricky tie at home to Kirkley & Pakefield whilst the other big 1st division clash sees Wrentham travel to Waveney Res.

There are several all second division ties with Ellingham taking on Corton Seltic, Tudor FC v Oxford Arms Res and LIFC v Waveney Gunners. There are also some interesting second v first division ties where there could be some shocks as Ole Frank host Pot Black, Crusader v Magpie, Pakefield Re-United v Sole Bay Res and Bungay Town A v AFC Bayfields whilst Corton A go to Caxton Res.

Marquis warm up.

Marquis warmed up with a game against Corton White Hart Celtics 1st team in the first half and res in the second half both half were very close with end to end action but White Hart took the lead early on with a well placed cross allowing the attacker to head home however Andrew Howarth soon made it 1-1 when a superb through ball from new signing Glen Russell allowed Andrew Howarth to slot home. However Corton soon made it 3-1 with two quick goals first one from a cross again allowing the attacker to head home and the 2nd with a well place shot leaving the Scott Sayer no chance of saving it. However Andrew Howarth soon made it 3-2 with a well place free kick from Andrew Lockwood allowing Andrew Howarth to head home. Andrew Howarth could have made it 3 a piece but was deined by the post from a close range free kick. Second half saw the reserve team take the field but Marquis soon made it 3-3 thanks to a superb cross from Ben Saunders allowing Lee Cuthbertson to slot the ball home. Marquis soon took the lead with a free kick from Ben Saunders allowing Ricky Woolger head into the back of the net to make it 4-3. The Corton equliser came with 1 min from the end thanks to a defensive error.

Barsham looking good.

Barsham FC travelled to Bungay to take on their Reserve team, which on paper looked like a tricky contest, with Bungay playing a couple of leagues above the boys from Beccles. However, Barsham proved everyone wrong with a very strong performance from all areas of the pitch. Going 2-0 up early on, Bungay then pulled one back, before Barsham wrapped it up late on in the second half to make it 3-1. Barsham hope to keep their 100% winning record when they travel just 100 yards to take on local rivals, Caxton Reserves on Saturday 16th August, 2.30pm KO.

Town Hall lose to odd goal to Pot Black.

Town Hall lost 3-2 to old foes Pot Black at a very wet Rollesby.Hall had the
brighter start but fell behind when the PB striker finished well after
looking third favourite to get to the ball.Darren Beckett used his pace to
get behind the PB defence to bring Hall level.PB regained the lead just
before the break after the ball fell kindly in the box for the PB
forward,Lee Marshall in the Hall goal did well to get a hand to it but the
ball went in off a post. The two sides were pretty well matched, but Halls
shape and organisation were called into question early in the second half,
with PB getting too much joy down Halls left resulting with a well drilled
strike from the edge of the box finding the net for 3-1.Hall battled the
back and made a game of it,the game becoming stretched with both sides
trying to find early season fitness in heavy conditions.Shane Kingdon
reduced the arrears when his cross decieved the PB keeper on his back
post. For all their efforts Hall could not find the equaliser leaving Pot
Black with the spoils 3-2.Not one of Halls better performance, but
pre-season is all about getting back into the routine of good habits and
fitness,a number of us clearly have a bit of catching up to do.Hall's MOM
Lee Marshall....some great saves.
Thanks to our friends south of the border for the game, and also to
referee Dave Bartram for officiating at short notice and having a good
game as well.Tomorrow we are at Rollesby again v Arches, but please note
earlier kick off at 2.30pm,meet ground no later than 2.00pm.Any problems

against Hall in March. With key players returning this week competition

Pot Black defeated in first run-out.

Friendly 24/07/08

Wenhaston Res- 4
Pot Black F.C- 1

With the squad a little thin on the ground for this match, with the air show no doubt playing a big part, all in all it was a respectable performance to which the score does not do justice.

Thanks again to Uni boys Hoody & Tom Miles who both looked dangerous and it was nice to see Jordon Wardrop and Leon Neeve pull on the Orange shirts for the first time.

On reflecting on the performance the pleasing thing is that there are many more positives than negatives, we created lots of chance's, which considering their were lots of players who have never played together in key positions, means things can only improve with time. Three of their goals were gifts and there manager, the ref and supporters commented that on another day the result could easily of gone the other way. Although to make sure next time things do go in our favour shooting practice is top the agenda at training next time around.

That aside thanks to all the lads who made the journey out to sunny Wenhaston your commitment off the pitch and on it was noted and much appreciated.

A massive thank you to our sponsor GH Windows & Doors, as the new kit got its first run out, it looked great and your backing will help the club to push forward in the new campaign.

And lastly a big thank you to Wenhaston for their hospitality and the friendly itself, It was nice to see a well run and well organised side, that were not to big for their boots (mentioning no local sides in particular!) and a top bunch of lads to boot, I hope we can have a re-run some time in the future.

Wonder Strike wins Cup Final.

On Friday evening an excellent KO Cup Final was won by a wonder goal from Micki Williams as Hearts of Oak completed the double against Norton Athletic.

Below are both sides match reports on the big game:

Norton v Hearts 0~1 LEAGUE CUP FINAL

The top two teams in the league met to contest the final, for the second year in a row. Hearts were at full strength and on a run of 11 league games without conceding a goal. Oak kicked off the battle but it was Norton who gained the early pressure with Hills and Hakky both hitting very good efforts which were inches wide, although Hearts withstood the pressure Vinny and Jonny combined to put Fisher clean threw who lifted his shot over bar. This seemed to relax Hearts , there next attack saw Taylor skin four players but lacking composure in front of goal he to shot over bar.Norton were closing Hearts down and using thier wide men as quick as possible and were unlucky not to take the lead when Scouse hit foot of the post from 25 yards . Again this woke up hearts Vinny Terry got round back and layed back for Jonny to hit an effort which seemed to hit a hand but ref carried on , from that break Norton poured forward at pace and Last massive frame denied Hills when he was clean threw. Fisher had the next best chance with a header from the impressive Bells free kick but Hills was alert to save .The first half was a very even contest and with the defences of both teams being as solid as ever.
Half time 0~0
Norton started second half brightly and again could of took the lead when Tom Hudson was left with a free header which Last saved . Luke replaced the injured Taylor to change Hearts formation to four four two with Fisher moved wide left. this opened up the match and gave Norton the extra man in the middle , Scouse blazed over when he should of scored then five mins later Fallaize for Hearts fired straight at hills when clean threw, it seemed destined for extra time with both teams cancelling each other out, until Fallaize forced a mistake at back which fell to Micki 35yards out who carried the ball past Boggis and unleashed a 25 yard drive into top left hand corner of net with six mins remaining. Norton threw everything at Hearts for last few mins but the outstanding defence of Hamo, Bell , Boyd and trindall were equal to most things ,Hearts had a chance to double thier lead with a indirect free kick 10 yards out , Mickis piledriver was cleared of line with the rebound falling nicely to Jonny to smack against arm of Richard Hudson but again ref waved play on. In the dying seconds Norton had the best clear chance of whole game but ben bircham blazed over from 8 yards with only last to beat. An outstanding match between the leagues two best teams which was decided by a special strike, For Hearts this was a brilliant finish to a season that started slowly.
The victory was dedicated to Jonny and Mickis Father who passed away on wednesday , and both brothers would like to thank both teams for respect shown on minutes silence and by wearing black armbands.
Full time 0~1
NOTLEYS DISTRICT LEAGUE MAN OF MATCH ~ Micki Williams, never stopped working and scored a corking winner .

02/05/08
Hearts of Oak 1 v 0 Norton Athletic – League Cup Final

Norton Athletic went into the league cup final looking to retain the trophy the trophy and deny Hearts an impressive double in what has been a good battle between the league’s two best sides all season.

For Norton were forced into some changes as Danny Hoadley was in Spain and Andy Green started on the bench with an injured ankle however he was probably fit to start. Richard Hudson also managed to get through 90 minutes despite a Hamstring worry.

The contest was proceeded by a minutes silence’s for Hearts players Micki and Jonny Williams who sadly lost their father on Wednesday and it was quite fitting that Mick would go on to net a magnificent winner and pick up the MoM award.

The game kicked off with both teams exchanging early corners and the first half chance fell to Norton’s Kevin Briers who could only stab the ball at Last in the Hearts goal.

Good play down the left between Paul Harriman, Ric Hudson and Chris Smith Jnr saw Ryan Hills also stab the ball towards Last.

The game was another cracker and when Steven Hak let fly from distance with the ball inches over it was living up to its billing. For Norton both full backs were attacking when given the chance and when Nick Persich got forward his deep cross was flicked over y Last.

More Norton pressure though ended with Hearts having the clearest chance of the game. Ryan Hills lost possession when trying to turn and Hearts broke forward. Jonny Williams crossed to Lee Fisher who blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

Norton then won a free-kick and Andy Boggis managed to pick out the dangerous Steven Hak who could only head at the keeper. For the first time in the match after around 30 minutes Hearts Darren Boyd lost out to Ryan Hills. With Last coming fast Hills took a touch and could only fires at his big frame. The rebound also went the same way. On the next attack it was Hills again but this time he twisted and turned before letting rip with another shot that was inches over.

The game appeared to be opening up and Hearts Adam Taylor went on a mazy run past several players who his end product was lacking as he fired over the top.

With Hearts now back in the game a long straight free kick saw Rob Hills alert to tip the header round the post.

For Norton the midfield trio were working well and Chris Smith Jnr (Goose) was covering every blade of grass to get in tackles and break up the Hearts play. As the half neared its conclusion a long throw was cleared to Kevin Briers who long range strike had Last beaten but it came back of the base of the post and from the resultant cross Ryan Hills put his header over. HT 0-0

The second half saw Norton start positive once more but by now the contest was full of commitment and for Norton Tom Hudson in particular was coming in for some tough treatment. The first chance of the half arrived to Hearts as captain Darren Boyd picked up a lose ball on the edge of the box and tried a curler which Kevin Briers headed off the line.

Norton then created their best chance of the match so far as a cross saw Tom Hudson unmarked at the far post but he could only head at the keeper when he had time to take a touch and bring the ball down. Moments later an even better chance as Ryan Hills dinked a short ball into Briers and from close range he could only blaze over.

The longer the contest went on the more likely that one goal would win and Hills had to be alert to deny Luke Faliaze when clean through.

Norton’s star man Steven Hak was then forced to retire with an injury to be replaced by Carl Cooper. As the game entered the final ten minutes Hearts took the lead with a brilliant strike worthy of winning any game. Luke Faliaze won possession for Hearts and he laid it inside to Micki Williams. Norton appeared to back off and so Williams made ground before unleashing a 25yarder into the top corner.

For Norton were now staring defeat in the face having played so well and in a final push and the final second they created a guilt edge chance to force extra time but Ben Burcham could only blaze over when sliding in and Hearts had completed the double.

For Norton this was a bitter pill to swallow having played some good football all season and having matched Hearts all the way only to be denied their own double by two single strikes in the crucial games. It has been a fantastic season none the less and everyone has played their part. Well done to everyone for the respect shown at the start and to all for socialising in the Hearts of Oak after despite the result.
