The Notley’s Lowestoft & District League will be represented in the Norfolk Primary Cup Final by Ellingham as they scored a goal 2 minutes from the end of extra time to defeat Norton Res. 2-1. Their opponents are as yet unknown as West Lynn SSC Res. and Lynn Docklands will replay this week after battling out a nil nil draw.
In the first division Hearts of Oak strengthened their hand at the top of the division as they won by the only goal at Waveney thanks to a Micki Williams strike. The closest challengers Norton Athletic went down 1-0 at a defensively sound Spexhall who got their tactics spot on. They scored early and then soaked up loads of second half pressure from Norton. Norton are now 5 points behind but do have a game in hand although they also have the more difficult run in.
The battle for 3rd spot heats up as current occupiers Kirkley & Pakefield A let a 2-0 lead slip as they were held 2-2 by CDS Waveney whose scorers where T Renshaw & T Aldis. Spexhall’s victory over Norton means they sit 4th a single point adrift. Then come 3 teams all on 27 points. Wrentham head this group following their excellent 8-1 success over Oxford Arms as Dale Gowing helped himself to 4 goals. Waveney Youth slip to 6th and then from a game more come Pot Black whom returned from Bratislava to defeat Corton Res. 5-0 as Adam Bird helped himself to a brace.
The final game saw Carlton Rangers strengthen their survival bid as they completed a quick double over Sole Bay United Res. this time 2-1. They are now ten points clear of Sole Bay but have played 4 games more.
The big game in the second division saw Barsham inflict a 4-2 defeat on leaders Hearts of Oak Res. to close the gap on them to just a single point. White Horse Seltic remain 3 points adrift in 3rd place as they dispatched the 10 men Lacon Arms 5-1. From a game more and 4 points off the pace come Blundeston Magpies whom look to be recapturing their early season form as they collected the 3 points with the only goal against Crusaders. Caxton Res. also are still in the hunt for promotion as they eased their way to a 6-0 success over Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res.
In the mid-table clash Pakefield accounted for cup ¼ finalists Waveney Gunners 4-1 whilst Royal Standard came back from two goals down to draw 4-4 at bottom side Suffolk Punch who are 11 points adrift of the safety zone.
The 3rd division also saw a 1st v 2nd clash and Ole Frank look certain for the title as they ran out 4-0 winners over Hopton White Hart to open up a 15 point gap. If games in hand are won they would still hold a 12 point advantage with just 5 games remaining. Blundeson Plough failed to capitalise on Hopton’s slip as they went down for the second week running this time 1-0 at Earsham. CDS Waveney Res. move above Westhall 2007 at the foot of the division as they beat Factory Arms 2-1 whilst Westhall lost 3-2 to Oxford Arms Res. who sit comfortably in mid table. Just above them in 6th place come Bungay Town A whom win 3-1 over Blundeston Magpies Res. and above them are Spexhall Res. whom came away from Marquis of Lorne with a 2-1 win.
This week sees the KO Cup and the John Moore Shield ¼ finals as we start to reach the business end of the campaign.
Clubs are advised that they can keep up with the latest information on the leagues website: http://lowestoftdistrictleague.blogspot.com/
