League report 2nd April

After weeks of call offs due to the weather the league now has to re-arrange 4 fixtures that didn’t take place this week following the failure of the council to appoint a grounds man at Dip Farm meaning the matches scheduled to have been played were postponed as there was no changing room open, nets or posts. This affected the Oxford Arms v Waveney Reserves, Oxford Arms Reserves v Lowestoft Albion and the top of the table clash in division two between Waveney Gunners and DK Consultants.

Oxfords inactivity means that Norton Athletic are the new leaders of the first division following a fine team performance and a 4-1 win against Kirkley & Pakefield A. Norton have a two point advantage but Oxford now have three games in hand and the two are yet to meet this season.

Pot Black picked up three points following their slender 2-1 win against Pakefield Re-United whilst Hearts of Oak returned from Blundeston Magpies with the points following their 4-1 win.

Spexhall hit basement side Corton White Horse Seltic for 6 whilst Gt Yarmouth Town Hall slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Barsham and are now 5 points behind the nearest team above them who are now Pakefield.

With the top of the table clash in the second division being postponed it allowed Hopton to close the gap which they did courtesy of their 2-0 win over Lowestoft International.

The other end of the table sadly sees Ellingham’s fate sealed as their 8-1 thumping at Waveney A and Norton Athletic Reserves 2-1 win at Bungay Town A means that they will definitely finish in the bottom two and be relegated.

Telecom Rovers were heavily beaten 11-2 by Mutford & Wrentham and they are now 4 points from safety and staring down the barrel.

Crusaders won at Spexhall Reserves 3-2 whilst Earsham scored the only goal in their game against Beccles Caxton Reserves.

The leaders of the third division Corton White Horse Seltic Reserves picked up another three points by winning 4-0 at Carlton Rangers whilst the second, third and fourth placed teams also gathered maximum points.

FC Eastport beat Westhall 5-0, Mutford & Wrentham Reserves beat Factory Arms 6-3 and Kirkley & Pakefield B won 2-1 against Royal Oak.

The league would now like to hear from any new clubs wishing to join in the 2011/12 season. Please contact Secretary Glyn Gray in the first instance, 01493 651261.
