League Report 6th September 2008

With the summer over and the European championships and the Olympic games behind us the new season of the Lowestoft & District began. Actually there was one game last week as new side Gt Yarmouth Town Hall who have joined from the Yarmouth league opened up their campaign with a narrow 3-2 win over Corton White Horse Seltic Res.

The first full Saturday saw 3 teams strike 11 goals as Hearts of Oak, Norton Res and Town Hall ran riot.

The defending first division champions after a summer of player movements went goal crazy at Oxford Arms sinking them 11-1 with new signing Ant Fields helping himself to a double hat-trick. Johnny Williams also got a trick with Adam Taylor and an OG completing the 11. Norton Athletic faced a very tricky looking Barsham side and it was the division new boys that were winning 2-0 at the break. Norton however kept going and scored 3 goals in the second half (Paul Harriman 2 and Ryan Hills) to net the points. There was also a win for last years third placed team Wrentham who triumphed 5-2 at FC Hearts with 5 different scorers.

Beccles Caxton Res. started their life in the top flight with an impressive 3-1 win over Spexhall as did Blundeston Magpies who beat Sole Bay United Res. 5-1. The other fixture saw Kirkley & Pakefield A win by the odd goal of 5 against Waveney Res.

The second division saw Norton Athletic Res. complete a miserable day for Oxford Arms as they cruised to an 11-2 win (Simon Tarver 3, Rory Spinks 2, Paul Martin 2, Chris Burton, Leon Ringer, Sean Higgingbotham & OG). The much fancied Ole Frank side were beaten 5-1 at home by Hopton White Hart. Promoted Bungay Town A went down 4-6 against Oulton Broad & Notley’s Res, whilst Corton A and Crusaders both recorded 4-3 wins over Ellingham & Pakefield Re-United respectively. Tudor FC (formerly Royal Standard) started with a fine 3-0 win over LIFC whilst White Horse Seltic went one better in beating Waveney Gunners 4-0.

The third division saw Town Hall make it two from two with a crushing 11-0 rout at Spexhall Res. Of the other new sides the youngsters of Kirkley & Pakefield B won 2-0 at Marquis of Lorne. Suffolk Punch beat Harleston Town Res 3-2.

Earsham started with a narrow 2-1 win over Waveney A and Lake Lothing (formerly Lacon Arms) started with a fine 4-0 win at Blundeston Magpies Res. Finally Westhall beat Factory Arms 5-1 to get of to a good start.
